Dropped my E1, won\'t work

Hello,

I dropped my Surefire E1 and it worked for a second afterward but now it won't work.

It would seem intuitive that I broke the bulb but because it worked for a second after I fiddled with it, I have to wonder.

I have taken it apart, tried to fiddle with it, with no luck.

Is it possible I broke the bulb, even though it worked for a second? Maybe it was "one last hurrah" from the bulb before it blew?

Or what else could it be?

It is a simple little device, so I can't imagine what else it could be.

thanks.

Welcome to CPF!

It's probably the bulb, but you should always try new batteries just incase.

Re: Dropped my E1, won\'t work

Thanks for the welcome.

I also have s broken E2 I am going to post about.

Needless to say, I am a bit annoyed that I have two broken Surefires and the only lithium light I am relying on now is my Walmart special Brinkman.

Re: Dropped my E1, won\'t work

It is possible that the broken filament reunited with it's other half momentarily. Definitely should just be the bulb, and a slight possiblity of the batteries.

Re: Dropped my E1, won\'t work

The glass might have a little hair line crack but not really to the extend of leaking gas. The moment you on the E1 the heat built up in the bulb causes it to expand and the Xenon leaked. This is what I guess based on theory.

Great theories. Yes, I did try new batteries.

Where is the cheapest place for me to buy a new bulb?

thanks!

Get a KL1 or even a KL4 Led for your E1... long term investment and no more blown bulbs to worry about! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Dropped my E1, won\'t work

Ya true. The E1 is bright but I find the incand beam too narrow for much good. You would be better off with a KL1, or KL4 LED head. Visually it looks brighter too.

Re: Dropped my E1, won\'t work

Do a search on ebay under sellers listing for 'somelamps'. Ships internationally, based in Mexico I think.

Re: Dropped my E1, won\'t work

Welcome to CPF, thaddeus, and why dontcha stay awhile!

Does sound like a lamp assembly, I've done that any number of times, myself. Somelamps seems to have great prices, especially for a single lamp.

I've had great luck and service on Surefire and Streamlight accessories from William at TTS, who's one of our CPF sponsors here.

Welcome again,

Welcome to the forum!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You might also check Ebay, last week a pair of MN01 bulbs went for 15 bucks.

Considering the output of the E1 bulb and the ease with which they can be broken, now would be a good time to get the KL1 head for it.

thaddeus,

Welcome to CPF. Rule #1 Stop dropping your lights /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rant.gif

Re: Dropped my E1, won\'t work

Try contacting Surefire for a new bulb. They might not give you a new bulb for free because you dropped it, but it doesn't hurt to try. Their customer service is the best.

Surefire flashlights are build like a tank and their operation is fool proof. When my surefire doesn't light, it is usually the batteries or the lamp (sometimes the switch). That's it. All a surefire is, is a hollow metal tube, switch, lamp and bezel. No funky wiring, electronics, or other electical paths for power to take to reach the lamp.
