DVD Laser - questions

Hi everybody...

Two simple questions:

- Has anybody made a laser array with a few DVD laser diodes? It can be focused to the same point separately, or may be using a flat scanner optic system

- I understand that laser diodes can manage a higher power than continuous mode, but only for short time. ¿It's possible to cool laser diodes using distilled water, oil, or another 'non-conductive' liquid directly over the diode WITHOUT package? If this works, it could boost output power for cheap laser diodes.

I may be misunderstanding you, but immersing or pouring liquid directly on a diode seems like a bad idea, even if it is non conductive. Even distilled water can lead to corrosion (ultimately). Also, liquid over the diode window may cause a funny diffraction pattern or cause problems focusing. I'm not sure I would try it with anything remotely expensive...

Ok, thanks for answer, and excuse my poor english.
I meant immerse the diode without external package (see photo below) in any kind of liquid... from distilled water, to transparent oil... improving heat transfer.

But i don't know if this could works or how light liquid refraction will change divergence of laser

Problems, I'd say. If you want more power, buy a laser diode that's built to handle it, and you'll be OK. You could also try chilling the diode holder, but this could also have an effect on lasing wavelength.


Still, you'll never know till you try! get a few $1 red lasers from the dollar store and give it a shot! at the least it will affect the lens focusing, but you may be able to compensate.
