I have been playing around with the 'new' drivers for a bit and discovered some things.
Here is the thread someone else started:
http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=265976
I soldered a bridge across what I thought was a cap (marked C7)- putting the Source pin to the FB pin, according to the spec sheet. I didn't actually measure any voltages before that (Not the brightest cookie here).
The measured current doubled- went to 750ma- but the board now over heats.
Now I soldered a copper plug about the 1/4 size of a penny on the back of the board, and then another copper shim about the size of a penny on top of that in order to attempt to increase the heat sinking / extraction and keep the board cool. I used a non-contact IR thermometer and measured a copper plug temp (sharpie'd it to make it non-reflective) of over 180F after a few minutes of running.
Obviously I could put a fan on it to keep it cool... maybe... if that's the only issue.
Any ideas what else might be going on? I should have some new photos of the board in a few minutes.
