Given these 3 Surefires, which should I go with? If suggest the E series should I go with a LED attachment?

I am looking for the brightest beam as batteries are an easy fix for length of burn.

I personally like the E1e body with the KL4 head (which comes off the L4). After getting used to LEDs, whenever I see an incan, I just think the batteries are low or something. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

i believe the E2e has the brightest beam.. but you could always get a KL4 head to swap with the regular E2e head (they're interchangeable) and that way you'd have the LED and incan' both..

i believe the L4 does a better job at illuminating things tho.. so if it were down to getting one stock light, i'd get the L4.

course opinions will vary tho.

I'd skip the E1e unless you want the smallest light. It's only about 1/4 the brightness of an E2e and at the lower brightness level I prefer the waterproof plastic alternatives (PT Blast, UKE 2L). The E1e/KL4 is a nice combo of course. Finally, if you want super brightness, there's a mod available for the E2e bezel that lets you use a P61 lamp for about 2x the output of a stock E2e. Runtime decreases to about 20 minutes on a pair of batteries /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

The P series lamps are for the standard, not the "E" series Surefires. The MN03 is, as far as I know, the brightest lamp that can be used in a stock E2e.

There are people, I think, who make adapters that allow a 6P head to be used on an E-series body, but these are not stock.

I gave up using my E2e when I got my L4.

I put a KL1 on my E2e should I want four hours of reasonable light. The L4 gets used more than the E2e. It's amazing.

When I had the E2e in my pocket, I used to go and grab other lights as the E2e is not regulated and starts yellowing after a bit of use. The L4 is regulated and lasts an hour at full brightness.

Cheers,

Richard

I recommend the L4. You can then purchase an E2 bezel and lamp separately if you desire.

The executive package from TW is a nice option too. I find I use the KL4 bezel (it's the head end of the L4) on an E1E body most of the time. This combo is not as bright as the L4, but it works exceptionally well with great run time.

It depends on what you want to use it for. VERY easy EDC or could you comfortably carry the E2e sized light? What do you mean by bright? If you mean throw, then the E2e would get the nod. The E2e and L4 are very close in brightness, but the L4 is more of a close to medium range flood light.

If you want small and reasonably bright, get the TW4. It's a nice package. I EDC a modified version of the TW4 and it is very comfortable. In fact I almost forget that I have it unless I need it. In the E2e sized light, the L4 will probably be the most useful. To have the best of both worlds, get the L4 and get one of those after market single cell bodies. That way you could go from the full sized body to the smaller body with the KL4 head.

I wonder if there's some way to add a slip-on optic to the L4 bezel to tighten the beam. That would be the best of all worlds.

Tactical warehouse and CPF have given some excellent suggestions in the past and I acquired the Surefire LEGO assembly group.I bought the E2e,KL4 Head,L4 body, Z57 clickie, and the E1e/KL1. With the purchase of a MNO1 LA for the E2e bezel on the E1E you can swap everything around to your personal satisfaction for EDC. My personal favorite is the E1e/KL4 also known as the TW4 for its creation/offering from the fine folks at Tactical Warehouse.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I had decided on the L4 / E1e combo, but at the last second, I changed to the M3. I hope I made the right choice.

For EDC, the L4 hands down. The M3 is a good choice if you're going to holster carry. But I would take a serious look at the Streamlight TL-3 xenon, less than half the $$'s.

The M3 is a nice light, but it's hungry. It's also overkill most of the time. My M3 gets used the least.

the M3 just looks too good for people to resist i think /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Whilst not a very good edc light...the M3 is my favourite Surefire (which I own)!! It, and the M3T, always seem the best of the millennium series to me.

The M4 is longer, more expensive to run and its 1-hour runtime lamp is not much brighter than the MN11/MN16 (20-mins) in the M3/T. Plus I have read that the M4 lamps are slightly overdriven.
The M6 is VERY bright and looks stunning…but it is bulkier and obviously more expensive to run /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/broke.gif.
The M2 is pretty big and heavy, compared to the other 6v systems, but is not any brighter.

The M3/M3T seems, IMHO, to be the best compromise of output, size/weight, running costs and strength (amongst the millennium series). In short……you WILL be PLEASED with you're M3!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

M3 is a good light, matter of fact I've been looking for a like new used one.

However, I do not think it's the right pick for a "first" light.

I would have recommended you buy the L4 first, then if that was not enough throw buy the M3. My opinion if you stick around here, you will eventually buy the L4.

P.S. It's always the lure of getting a blindingly bright light that throws a beam bright enought to light up the moon. I think for the majority of newbies their first question is, where can I get a light like that, sigh.
