Hi folks!

As cool as the E2 with an LED bulb was, it only seemed useful for close-up work. This seemed odd to me given how bright the LED looks. So I started to fiddle with lenses of different types and found a setup that focuses the beam to project like a spotlight.
It really is surprisingly bright considering it lasts over 10 hours on a set of batteries.

I hope this image comes across, with the E2 led on the left and with a lens on the right.

this is the E2 led, plain at 12 feet.

this is with a lens.

this is at 10 feet, without and with lens.

This seems pretty nifty, but makes the E2 a bit bulky at the tip. If anybody is interested, I will try to post a description of how to make this. I'm not sure the pics I put here will work, so I'll stop here.

OK, the photos did not work.
It worked when I tried it on the practice post. I'll try another way.

This is without(L) and with lens (R)

Let's see if this one worked.

Looks good JoeyL.
Tell us more, please. Can you post photos of how the modification works ?
Is it in addition to, or a replacement for the E2 lens ?

Hi folks!

It is basically an eye loupe inverted onto the bezel of the E2. One of my mechanic buddies offered to make a metal sleeve to attach to the bezel, and I'll look into that later. For now, it's held on by a rubber grommet super-glued onto the loupe.

Then you have to cut the center hole on the grommet a little bigger to fit the bezel, then it just goes on. When you don't want it, it comes off, no harm to the E2.

This is a photo of the beam on a door in a sunlit room from 2 feet away.

The photo doesn't really do it justice. It is a very narrow beam so that limits it's usefulness, but it's the best spot of light from an LED I've seen. Spidey, with the regular bulb it looks like junk. It would be hard to improve on the standard E2 beam.
I think this works because LEDs emit light diffusely and this thing collimates it.
