I've been using my Nitecore Defender Infinity (NDI) for running since it came out, and before that I used my Firefly3. Now I'm using my Quark Ti R5 1xAA Tactical. The spot is bigger and the beam pattern is great for lighting up the trail. Runtime on Max was my concern, but I'm happy using it since High is still very bright. I tested runtimes tonight in a glass of water.

Quark Ti 1xAA Tactical with XPG-R5 on 14500 battery:
Max Runtime = approx. 48 minutes
High Runtime = 2 hours 38 minutes

The High is brighter than my Firefly3 on Max and just about as bright as my NDI on 14500, but with a larger spot and spill. That is a great runtime with that bright of a light. I don't mind the weight, 3oz with battery. I definitely prefer a tactical switch, and the simple 2 level UI of the Quark is very practical for running. I also try to use my EDC as my all purpose light. I also ran tonight with my NDI, and the color rendition of the Quark R5 might even be better for my eyes as I get tired.

As a side note, I took the clip off of my Quark Ti 1xAA and added my favorite strap for EDC and running. And we used my (2) Quark Ti 1xAA Tacticals at Halloween last night keeping track of a bunch of kids and they were awesome in real use. They put out a lot of light!

Cool test, thanks for doing this. First runtime test I've come across for the Quark Ti. Results are pretty similar to the regular Quarks (as in selfbuilt's review), which is good to know.

Yeah, I haven't seen any other runtime tests either. I understand Medium should stay on for about 10-12 hours or so.

Great info, you may consider getting a Nite-eyes head band for your Quark, they fit good and are fully adjustable, I use one with a Olight T10 and Quark 1x123 tactical when hunting or getting to and from my treestand.

Another follow up, I'm really into night running now ;).
I went running tonight with both my NDI & my Quark Ti 1xAA Tactical, one in each hand. I'm so used to my NDI and it's been on a lot of runs, so I wanted a direct comparison. Here's what I realized:
1) The tint of my NDI is mostly white, slightly pinkish. It looks great on its own, and seems to get good color renditions and depths outside. But at the same time, it's a tougher to look at color on the cement trails, which is what most of my running is.
2) The NDI spot is medium sized and has a semi-smooth transition to spill, and has always worked ok for running. I never really noticed the rings, until side by side with my Quark. And the larger spot of the Quark Ti with the very smooth transition to spill is so much easier on the eyes. Less quick brightness changes as the beam moves when I run.
3) The Quark's white / slightly green tint is easier on the eyes, but maybe less depth on the green foliage and trees. But I can run on Med or High with major runtime and save Max for when needed to see distance. I can now twist the head with my one hand as I run.
4) The NDI is smaller which is better for a pocket EDC, but for running, the Quark fits in my hand better. I want my light in my hand when I run, as I often move it quickly as I run fast through the trails. I've learned to keep it pretty steady, but again, the larger spot and spill and smooth transition are much easier on the eyes.

I'm into night running as well, and I have taken to using the Quark 2x123 Tactical w/ 17670. I like the way it fits in my hand a little better than my QAA. You might want to check out the newly announced Prism, which to me seems like a GREAT accessory for running, as it will allow you to light up the trail in front of you without having to contort your arm or hand into an awkward position--you can just keep your arm/hand in "normal" running position. I preordered the moment it was announced...can't wait to get mine.

It's been sitting in my cart. :) I'm just awaiting to see what he comes out with tomorrow to order it together. I'm not sure I'll use it for running, depending on the beam etc, as I am used to a regular light position now. But with the headband and all, there are times when it could come in handy.
