Hello fellow flashaholics :D

I'm looking for a keychain light, was almost sure I would buy the quark mini 123 but I was thinking to use it with one 3,7V RCR123 battery and as far as I know, from what I read the use of RCR123's with the quark mini 123 is not recommended.

So I am wondering if you can help me finding another light with similar size/price/output to the quark mini 123 that can use rechargeables

On the other hand, if any of you guys has a quark mini 123 and uses RCR123's with it, please let me know ;)

Many thanks lovecpf

I was doing some reading on this earlier... apparently the quark MiNi CAN take RCR123s, but you can't use high mode for too long or it will overheat. However, my question-can the MiNi 123 fit protected 16340 cells?

Also, the itp a1 can use 3.7v batteries, but it seems like the MiNi is more popular... any MiNi owners out there care to share why?

I have both the 4Sevens Quark Mini 123, and the iTP A1 EOS; they are very similar.

Both can take lithium ion 16340/RCR123, but both are so small that running on high with that battery will heat the light up quickly.

You can easily run for 30 seconds to a couple minutes; more than that, you need to tightly heat-sink them with your hand or something else to remove the heat, or risk degrading the LED. This is true of any bright tiny flashlight using LiIon batteries fully driving a modern LED. For instance it's true of my LiteFlux LF2X using 10440.

This is why it's not recommended - the manufacturers don't want to replace lights under warranty that people have burned up.

Both will take an AW protected 16340 battery.

If you think you will need to use it on high for a long time, esp. if you aren't holding it, then swap a regular CR123 into it.

As for why the Mini 123 is discussed more than the A1 - I think it's partly because 4Sevens is a flashaholic-involved company; also the Mini uses an XP-G and really gives a "wall of light" on 16340; the A1 uses XR-E and gives quite respectable output on 16340 but not quite as much as the Mini.

The Mini 123 is what I have on my keyring.

OOOOOPs? :sick2:NOPE!!
otherwise i'd have been toast over a year ago!:poof::p
my Quark mini titanium CR123 has lived it's entire life of EDC carry & use
on RCRs!! no prob at all!!

dont let bad info deprive you of one of the best EDCs ever!

So how long can you run a Mini123 on high mode with a RCR123? 4Sevens said it is not recommended. I am thinking of getting a mini soon but would like to be able to use rechargeables.

You may want to look into the Zebralight SC30. It's .3in longer than the MiNi but supports RCR123 for 30 min of runtime at full regulation on high. There's a runtime test somewhere on CPF but I'm too lazy atm to link it.

Hey, the Quark 123 Mini can't support 3.7v from a li-ion battery and it will overheat quickly due to the extra voltage.

I recommend using a LiFePO4 rechargeable battery that is around 3v. They are very convenient but they require special chargers. I'm sure some people at CPF marketplace will have them. These batteries are safer than traditional Li-ion batteries in my opinion and i don't think they have a protection circuit.

I think battery junction has some of them

been using my a1 eos ss with trustfire 16340s without a problem

I know I was reading up on this and someone got a response from 4sevens that if you can't hold it ...then it is too hot, but otherwise it is fine.

On that note, I am sure if you mainly liked to use it at a lower output (the 25 lumen medium...it would be fine)

correct me if I am wrong...

The Peak Logan takes RCR123's. It's a single level light built to whatever power level you select. Below is a Brass & HAIII keychain version. There are many others.

Dances with Peak haha, Is that Logan yours and if so what power level do you have? It's a snazzy look with the black ano and brass. I think I like that look more than the SS/Brass combo. I'm thinking of a #0 Logan once I chill out a bit since I've been on a Peak buying spree lately, haha.

Yes, it's mine. I simply put a Brass #8 Logan head onto an old McKinley HAIII body. Got the idea from MWClint who did the same thing a long time ago with a Peak Pacific, but Peak now does this head/body switching on request with nearly all their lights.
