I read the review on the Nitecore EZ AA and wondered if there would be preferences/suggestions for alternative brands for an EDC single AA.

You'll need to provide more information, like price range, size range, clip or no clip, runtime, and so on.

I would like "easy" one-handed operation--EZ AA is said to be too difficult/rough. Second and pricewise, 75.00 and below; no lanyard but sturdy clip for keychain would be nice. Runtime, 1.5 hrs. and no warm tint. That's probably too much to ask.

Odd, I've heard the EZAA is just fine one handed. I guess if you had limited strength or dexterity, but anyhow....

But the D10 (with optional clip) is another to check out.

the information I'm going by is the review here at CPF. I'll check out the d10.

Yup. D10 is a great light, but the EZAA is a bit more pocketable and one handed use is no problem.

OT but what puzzles me is the lack of power in 1aa lights. Modern nimh batteries are capable of way higher drain than the 1c discharge normally found in 1aa lights. Is it the boost circuit or what?

But 1C is at the low end of what is considered "acceptable" runtimes for the highest level. Heat is also an issue when driving harder in such a small package.

For what you seem to want, the D10 might be a good choice.

As for 1 AA lights and the lower power, boost circuit aren't as efficient at these low voltage, runtime can't be too short, and heat are all issues.

My EZAA is no problem at all for one hand operation. Of course, a clickie switch will be easier still, but you add some size to have one. I would consider the EZAA to be too large for keychain duty, but some folks don't seem to mind, and for a single AA it's about as small as you get in a modern light with its high power capability. There is no pocket clip, though something could surely be adapted, and plenty of holes at the tail end for split rings and lanyards.

Jetbeam Jet I Pro IBS v2.0, pocketable but not too suited for keychain carry. Runtime is not an issue as there are 3 individually programmable modes so you can balance output with runtime. Durable and waterproof as well.

Edit: just realised that i was carrying my Jetbeam Jet I MkIIx in the waist band coin pocket of my business trousers and completely forgot that it was there :D if you can find it, this light is pocketable and has 2 different operating systems. Default is Med-Lo-High-Strobe-Blink (once every 8 secs or so) changed by 1/2 clicking. Special mode is High-Strobe-Lo then each click ramps it up by about 5 % then you hit SOS (high) - SOS (low) - blink.

How you change from Operation Mode 1 to Operation Mode 2 is: when in default, turn OFF the light when in low mode, it now goes to Operation Mode 2. When in Operation Mode 2, turn OFF the light in any of the SOS modes and it goes back to Operation Mode 1.

I'm thinking about the same thing! (Although I'm also considering single RCR-123A lights in the mix.) The EZAA isn't on my short list because I figure if I'm going to spend that much I would rather get the variable settings of the D10. The D10 and EX10 look really fun. I also like the ITP C7 for its looks and variable settings, although it's a little wider than necessary. The Lumapower F1 in silver finish catches my eye, and it's affordable too, but I'm guessing the beam is sort of weak compared to some of the others out there (correct me if I'm wrong, folks!). Another compact & affordable model is the Romisen RC-H3, which Shiningbeam has with brighter Q5. I was also eyeing the Fenixes, but don't like the fact that a 14500 is unregulated in them.

Part of my decision also rests on whether I want to carry in my pants pocket (which means the tinier the better) or on a clip (some don't have this) or in a belt holster (which allows somewhat larger offerings.) And would I rather have a light that looks WOW

or one that does cool things  like have 100 settings or more. I don't want to get too carried away and buy 'em all... YET! :grin2:

Don't forget the Proton Pro. Its one handed operation with side clickie is about as easy as it gets. Pocket clip, too.

I have both the EZAA and the D10. The D10 is a terrific little light, I love the very low low and the variable brightness. The only reason I don't EDC the D10 is that it has a habit of turning itself on, so when I carry it I will set it on low first so it wont matter much if it does.
The EZAA is really starting to grow on me. Its well built, the low is very usefull and the High is about the same as the D10. One handed operation is not a problem. If it only had a clip, it would be in my pocket all the time.

Check out the fenix line too, they have some very capable AA lights.
