EL1 upgrade

I think your tlnaikg about a Surefire E1L the best mod would be to the head. Change that nasty square spot to a smooth round spot and flood. The head is a KL1 and by taking out the optic and replacing it with a reflector you get a normal looking beam but lose the amazing distance of the square beam the optic produces.

Oh ok well then do what we do here best "buy 'em both" get a seoul P4 led and a reflector made for it and it'll blow the Lux III away
Sandwich Shoppe should have both I think the McR-20-S reflectors work in there
Look here go to the Mod Shoppe section for all the parts
Someone here has posted a how to just search it

Ok search for for it and all will be explained

If you dont have a heat gun you'll need to boil the head
You need good soldering skills and basic dremel skills
or look for someone to do it for you
Milkyspit comes highly recommended

No need to dremmel.. all you need is a stovetop.. strap wrenches leather gloves and a soldering iron.

heat the head over the stove over high heat for about a minute.
try to unscrew.. tough aint it?
heat it again.. high heat 60 seconds
easily unscrew the top part off the bottom paying attention not to unscrew the bottom part off. Sure is easier after more heat is applied.
The bottom part is full of the electronics. dont unscrew that part.
Once the top part is off.. unsolder the old LuxIII noting the red wire is positive and the black negative.
(having already indicated the polarity of the Cree or Seoul) solder the new emitter in place. Insert the reflector and put the head back together.

people have report ~90 lumens, I've done this mod and its absolutly worth it. I've done a side by side with a P1D-CE running recharables 123, its hard to tell which is brighter. I also completed the 2 stage Low/High mod by soldering a 1/4 watt 10ohm resistor to the tailcap. awesome mod and would recommend this as well.you get press soft for temporary low or hard for temporary high, twist tight for constant low and press hard for temporary high or click it for constant high.

...and finish product :)
