Electronic Fly Swatters

Been viewing those tennis racquet shaped devices that with 2AA batts are said to zap bugs, etc on contact. Anyone have one with experience to share? There are no details to speak of on effectiveness, battery duration, time between zaps, ability to bring down big game (moths), etc. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A newspaper, regular fly swatter, or a shoe would be just as effective. I saw these at harborfreight for $4.99. The electronics might be of interest. This might work for a cheap longer range stun gun.

i have one of these. dont try to use it like a regular fly swater and smak it on a wall it will break. i like to trap it on the wire grate agaist a wall and it will usualy get zapped. on large bug it takes a few zaps or my batterys are low havent changed them in a long time. you can also try to let the bug fly into the wire grate grate. charge time between zaps is only a few seconds. just hold the button and hunt the fly. in the end its fun to have around and the sparks are cool. if you zap a dead bug a few to many times it kinda gets smelly

I love the UV cages with the HV cage. Especially the large ones found on farms. Moths put on a spectacular sight at night, so do salamanders and other creatures. There is nothing like living in a swampy area in Coastal North Carolina, and being able to sit on the back porch, stare at the stars, listening to the frogs and crickets, drinking a cool Pepsi that is on the virge of slush, and hear hear the demise of those mosquitos that used to bite ya after a long hot day!

My wife got one of those little bug vacuums, looks like a handheld flashlight with a 18" (or a little longer?) tube...works pretty good for bugs that are sitting and she doesn't have to touch them. But they are still living...she "releases" them outside.

I like the ZAP idea better! I may have to pick one of those up for my arsenal!

a vacumn cleaner with the tube attached is awsome for getting Smoky Browns and Palmetos very clean.

that of course is my moms way- mine is a 5j cheap springer that i used to have. it was too powerful to airsoft as it would leave bloodmarks at any range. i first used it wen i was going to brush my teeth and was charged by this HUGE roach. i had the gun in my hand loaded since i had just finished modding it. i racked the slide and shot the bugger dead center and bits of him went everywhere. bit messy but very satisfying.

a co2 powered pellet gun works pretty good
the co2 blast kills flys buzzing around my windows
I have yet to break a window
oh and you do not need the pellet

I've had a similar one that uses a 9v battery for a couple of years and love it. It's great for moths and flies. When you "get one" it'll spark and smoke, literally frying it.

Yep, had one for years. It works great for flies and especially mosquitos, you don't have to wait for them to land, you just let them fly through...

Just got mine in; I love this thing! I take walks in the evening to give my various lights runtime, and this will be a companion to fend off various airborne pests that are attracted to lights. And, it's really fun, too.

How long do you need to hold the button down before the correct charge builds up? Anyone know what the battery drain on this is like? How many zaps per set of AAs? How would NIMH affect performance?

just hold the button for a few seconds and hit the bug while holding the button. holding the button and then leting go to hit the bug doesnt give enough oompf. the charge drops down when you let go of the button. as far as zaps per aa's and battery drain im not to sure. nimh provides more current so i bet it would probbly generate a higher current spark
