What is the ones to go for. Hi guys, I remember a year back and recent discussions about dead japanese made energizers, and get the china ones. Odd as it sounded... I just bought 4 cells with 1 hour charger and chose the chinese ones to see if it is true, as i have used japanese ones for 10months.. With just the 1 hour burn in and use + topoff, and use,, a resting mixed set of 4 japan energizers, 1 chinese energizer, and 1 japan powertech returned resting voltages of 1.389V (J E) 1.363 (CHI E) 1.410 (J PT). The jaycar powertech and japanese energizers received bad treatement for the last 8 months being charged in series of constant current wall wart of 300 or 500mA, or trickled at 50mA (old arlec charger) so why does my chinese energizers seem bad.. Do i return the set and buy jaycars powertechs and charger, or swap the chinese ones for japanese energizers? Will these get better with age and iv been missing out while using japanese ones.

thanks, hopefully guidance is on the way:)

what tended to happen with the japan cells, is they developed a self-discharge that was so fast that unless you used the cell fresh off the charger, they were useless.

I've got 4 japans here, within 3 months of owning them, they would drop to 0.9V within 2-3 weeks of resting. Now if I charge them up, they will read 0.9V in less than a week. Total waste.

Not sure why not every japan cell seems to have these problems, I have a buddy who has been using the same set of japans for 2 years in his camera and never had a problem.

Probably depends on manufacture date! I have some Sanyo 2500 mAh manufactured at the end of 2005 and I have no problem so far with them! I had a lot of Energizer 2500 mAh die like this that were manufactured at the end of 2004, beginning of 2005.

Sanyo 2500 mah are also known to have problems. Sanyo said it solved the problem at some point. I'm pretty sure Energizer could have the problem solved but they decided to source their 2500 mAh from China before it was solved. I have some Energizer 2500 mAh that have been replaced with cells from China and so far, no problem with them! I use them in my L2D-CE. They are only less balanced in capacity (slight variation) than cells made in Japan.

Iv just remeasured, and the chinese ones are holding voltage, while the japanese ones have dropped to 1.372. For the record, the Jaycar 'Powertech 2500' is still at 1.401. Ill seperate a few and do a study over the next few weeks. Thanks for the info guys, i might chime in with the results if significant. How can you tell what date they are manufactured?
thanks guys,
