Been looking out for the Energizer LED Headlamp that has been posted about here.

Finally on Thursday at my local Wal*Mart I saw one just lying there on a shelf by the flashlight section - no price, couldn't find any other or the hanger.

So took it to the checkout and it was $12.99.

It's a nice compact unit and with 3 AAA batteries (included) it feels comfortable with its headband.

I really like the white beam - comprising of 2 white LEDs with pre-focussed lenses - they are very well focussed and coincident. So well that unless I knew there were 2 LEDs I would have thought it was a single LED.

Brightness is pretty high on white - definitely brighter than my CMG Ultra-G or Inova Microlight white, or Photon II white.

Here's a pic comparing its size with the Ultra-G -

Overall I am very pleased with the Energizer LED Head Beam - the white light is very impressive and brighter than I expected. The focussed spot is well sized to give both good coverage and good throw (for an LED)

The red is pretty bright too but the beam is a bit ringy - however I found I could see quite a bit better under this red than I recall with my other red LEDs.

I bought this knowing there are NO claims for water-resistance. However since I am basically in an urban environment most of the time - this is not a major concern for my usage - but I more than understand could be crucial for some other applications

I got one of these from Target for $14.99. It's really great for doing household jobs when you need both hands. Definately recommend for general close-up lighting needs.

Pi:

I have both. The similarities are: Both are adequately bright for most general putzing around, including changing car wheels at night or peering into dark closets. Both run on 3 AAA cells. Both have tilt heads, vital for those of us with limited peripheral vision due to thick eyeglass lenses (NerdVision). Both have adjustable and perfectly comfortable headbands and forehead pads. They're about the same size and weight.

The differences begin with price: the Aurora is twice as dear. The Aurora is waterproof. The Aurora puts out a nice flood (with a hotspot) from 3 LEDs, the Energizer puts out a spot with two LEDs. The third LED on the Energizer is red, but a very impressively bright red. The Aurora is dimmable (3 levels) and so can be used for night reading in bed and/or those times when you must stretch battery life. The Aurora's switch is electronic (only a small current flows through it), whereas the Energizer's switch is mechanical (as it wears, the light may dim and flicker).

Where they differ most in character is in their optics: working close, the Aurora is much brighter. No contest. Move more than about 4 feet away and the Energizer starts asserting itself. That's right, the Energizer has that mystical elusive quality called Throw.

So they're different, not directly comparable. Get both.

I like a headlamp to have a nice flood. The Aurora does very nicely. I have my LSH-P and E2e or throw. Does the Energizer come close to the LSH-P? I am guessing that it does not.

You guessed correctly. The Arc LSH-P has a much better "throw" than the Energizer's two pitiful 5mm white LEDs.
The Energizer is a good light, don't get me wrong; but it can't compare to the power and throw of an LSH-P.

I've tried both Target and Walmart and they both seem to be out of stock. Guess I'll have to wait a little longer.

I saw them at Target for $11.99 at one time, but I thought I should save my money for a better light. I went back to look for them recently. Out of stock.
