Hi all,

I have been suffering of late as I am without power to my envee now that the button has come off properly this time.

Where the button attaches there are usually 2 rectangular solder points but now I only have one as the other has come away from the pcb. Please have a look at the images below and advise of somewhere I can hook into to make a new button work (Probably external attached by 2 wires to a new point and the last existing solder point for the old button)

I have tried to highlight the area on the pcb where I can no longer solder the button to so if you can see a point I could use please advise. I did consider powering up and trying a few points that look like they might work but there is nothing wrong with this envee so I would much rather see if anyone can help before I start blindly running power through odd bits of the circuit !

cheers,
Tony.

Looking at the last picture fror reference, I can't tell if the top solder pad that is missing originally connected to the blob of solder to the right of it (highlighted below on the right).

It looks repairable. The area I highlighted on the left appears to be the trace the missing pad connected to. Gently scrape this area with a somewhat sharp flat blade screw driver or a razor blade. You will be able to scrape the green coating off to expose the copper trace.

Place the switch back where it should be. You can use a bit of epoxy under the switch for added strength. Solder the bottom connection that is still good. Then bridge some solder to the newly exposed trace. To make it easier you can use a small piece of wire to make the bridge. Again, I can't tell if the missing pad connected to the pad on the right & if the pad leads to anything. If it did & it does lead to something, be sure to bridge this connection as well.

I can't tell what the trace on the left leads to but another option would be to use an ohm meter & check for continuity between the trace and another point. If you find it, you jump a wire to that point. I would just bridge a connection to that trace though to make it easier.

It lives !

Did as you suggested, scrapped off the green above the area you highlighted, dab of epoxy to get the button in place and then the solder. the gap between the button and the chip on the side that still has the solder point was a little tricky with the iron i have and I did manage to get some solder across to the first leg but mopped that off. The other side I used a tiny bit of wire from the side of the button round the corner to the new exposed spot, I did not go near the other side as I did not think it was originally attached, probably just suffered from my previous soldering. Tested . .on it came ! happy days . . .but something is not right although I am really pleased about it . . somehow in the process of repair i have managed to disable the three second delay which has been my only wish with this laser. I still have the iris and the key on it so when it is not in use by me it is left safe (not that anyone can get to it) but to not have to wait for three seconds for it to come on is a real bonus. not sure what caused the bypass, maybe too much heat near the chip ?? i dont know but I am not going to touch it now.

Thanks so much for pointing out where to solder . . I have the greenie back !

Thanks,
Tony.

and now its instant on which is even better !

Cheers,
Tony.
