Newly Enlightened
Got the new EternaLight EliteMax today. So far, it is just as advertised. Looks like the EliteXray, except with a sticker on the back that gives instructions for all the new modes. One change is that level "12" of the dimming function lights up the "NightBeacon" LED to a reasonably bright level--much more so than used as a "nightlight". Also, the "Momentary" mode of the old model is now called "Momentary Overdrive" and is activated with the unit OFF, rather than ON by pressing the "adjust" key. A plus, as long as the "adjust" key doesn't get stuck on!
But the big plus--Regulation /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif! Comes with lithiums, which I took out to use in my other eternaLights. 10 hours maximum bright regulated with 3 x $2.00 lithiums versus 6 hours maximum bight regulated with 3 x $.22 Costco alkalines. (BTW, anyone know a place for a better price on the AA lithiums?). A look at the run chart in the instruction manual doesn't seem to indicate much reason for running this in regulated mode using lithiums.
Another cool feature--remembers the last brightness setting.
A question for MrEternaLight, if he is reading. The "old" run charts quoted figures for "running continuously with light not falling below 40% of fresh battery output". The new figures are to 20% of fresh battery output, with estimates at or below the 40% figures. What gives?
All in all, a worthy addition. User selected regulation, the only way to go!!
