Very nice review Doug! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
If I remember right, I also gave the EverLED a 5-star rating. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks Doug! Great job as usual...

Just wondering, if its rated for use with anything from 1-6 cells, would it be possible to also use it with 123 cells, provided that we don't exceed 9v (3x123)? Or would usage of 123s fry the led right out? Any idea on this? Thanks...

If you can use it with rechargables (which you can according to the documentation), which give up their current as fast as lithium batteries, I don't see why you couldn't use it with Lithiums as well.

Thanks All!

Why would you want to spend $40.00 on an EverLED when you can get a whole 1-watt LED Flashlight for that price or a bit more?

Heat is an issue even with a 1W SE like the everled. It's hard to see how the MaxStar2 can deal with the heat problem, after looking at it's packaging. However, I hope to be proven wrong, Luxeons are fairily resistant, so hopefully they can stand the heat and the MaxStar2 will be driven at a high enough current to make it nice and bright.

FDR, this isn't some sort of a competition, just notice of a new review. Let's keep the discussion "review related" and focused on the product at hand, please. Feel free to discuss other products in the appropriate forum.

anyone test the performance in a host that doesnt offer good heatsinking?
how much does it fade back as it heats?
once i get a lightmeter i could do it.
i run mine in a mx-994/u with a metal reflector.
even with this good heatsink 2 of 3 have died and were exchanged.

Just last night I went for a walk with my Teal Everled in a 6-volt lantern. It gave a really tight beam, quite fun /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. I left it run for at least an hour maybe an hour and a half and couldn't tell any difference in brightness. I took it out when I got home and it was very warm but not quite hot enought that I couldn't hold it. The lantern has a small metal area for a negative contact and that absorbed some of the heat but everything else is plastic so heatsinking wasn't all that good. All 4 of my Everleds are still running well and none of the lights I have them in really have good heatsinks.
I'm still concerned about the heat though, everytime I take them out of a light after a 15 or 20 minute run they seem to be hot but they keep going so I guess it's not doing much harm if any. Also they don't seem to get as warm when run from only 2 cells. They sure are fun though I still get a kick from popping them in and out of various lights /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif.
