Extra cap on output for long leads, BB?

On the 1w headlamp I am making, I am contemplating using a bb400/500, instead of direct drive/pot. The leads to the battery pack will probably be around 1/2 meter and up. I am pondering whether it be best to have the board close to the batteries, or close to the emitter. Also, what cap to use, if any, in the preferred arrangement.

If there is a preference, keep the converter board as close to the batteries as possible and run the Luxeon wires on the long side.

That may not be practical and I'd recommend trying to keep the battery to converter board wiring down to 6-8" max 22-24G stranded wire.

The LED side is non critical.
