More fade tests done. This time I see how a Cree 24cd white, a LED out of a Ray-O-Vac round squeeze light and a blue LED perform. As Usual, the Column on the left is the tested and the right is the control LEDs. Photo was shot through translucent white plexi over the LEDs touching the top of the LED's dome to capture the light before it scatters due to the difference in beam angles. Test was 206 hours at 30ma.

ROW1: Cree 24cd. No fading. The driven LED was a bit brighter than the control LED. I checked the RGB values of in the photos before and after the test to verify no fading.

ROW2: This 5mm LED was taken out of the ROV light mentioned previously. These lights cost $2 at WalMart, so I just get a new one when the batteries run down and salvage the LED. The LED is pretty bright and more bluish-violet than the Cree. It faded only slightly. I had to compare RGB values as visual observation was hard to conclude.

ROW3: I think it was CPF member Fallingwater who wanted to see a blue LED tested. I don't have too many, but I grabbed the cheapest ones I have to test as a common denominator. These are from ebay seller "Asia Engineer". While not the brightest, they are still pretty bright. Beam has a center spot with ring. Fading was very slight I had to check RGB values to see the change.

Conclusion: I was mostly interested in the Cree 24cd LED for this test. I am quite happy to report that it did not fade one bit. It is a cool white LED without being blue or violet in the the tint and it does not have the "angry blue" hotspot. While it is not the brightest LED out there (see my other test in this forum), it is right on the heels of the better ebay LEDs, JELED and LOV (those ebay LEDs faded in this test) and don't cost much more. It has a fairly narrow beam and brightens up nicely on overdrive. I think it is a fine flashlight LED candidate.
