Family Lights

What lights do you typically hand to family members when they want/need one? I like to walk in the evenings, and am sometimes joined by my wife and son. I let them use blue and teal everleds in either a Garrity 2D G-Tech or Craftsman rubber 4AA. Neither is particularly careful with lights, thinking, afterall, it's just a flashlight! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif So, by doing this I can let them bang around with them while playing in the yard, etc. They get the cool benefits of led light (they love the colors and don't want to be saddled with the "plain" white ones), and if the inexpensive (re: cheap) host gets damaged, the led investment is safe and easily transferrable. And, the battery runtime for these is 24+ hours on 2D, so they can play to their hearts content with them after sundown without me having to worry about changing batteries or dimming output. CMG Infinity or Lightwave 2100. Both are indestructible -- not extraordinarily valuable -- and have great runtime so no worries if accidentally left turned on for a while.

I definitely second the Infinity.

If you want not to use white...the Blue-Green Infinity will last at least 40 hours on 1 AA and it is built like a tank so you will NOT need to worry about any kind of harsh duty!

True; I considered the Infinity. But we live in a wooded area with little in the way of streetlights, etc. So, I wanted a 1W LS for more volume. The infinity would allow them to see where they are going and be hazardproof, sure, but not to really throw any distance.

I have let me wife use the Surefire 8NX and G2 on the weekends and my son (7yrs old) has used my G2 and E1-GM.

If the lights don't hold up for them I don't want them /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

well, for example:

about a week ago, my dad was helping me work on my car.
he said, "hand me a light" and i reached in my pocket and grabbed an e2e
he used it, and i said "here, give me that and i'll got get a different light, batteries are too expensive for this"
i went inside, got another light and came back.
i handed him a no-name 2d light, and he gave me such an evil glare, i could only laugh! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowlaugh.gif

even though he gives me a hard time for my ...err...interest, and he's only a "normal" person, he was pretty mad when he had to use the 2d light when the nice e2e was right there in my pocket /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've just lent my Elektrolumens modded mag to my parents for when they go caravanning (that's a trailer to you Americans!) They also have a host of modded torches around thier house in case of power outages which can affect that part of Lincs.
The ElektroMag should cope with everything that they would do with it. The assurance that there isn't a bulb to break is something to its advantage, too!

I put a Versalux PR-2 LED bulb into a 2AA flashlight and gave it to my mom. I also got her an Eveready 2 LED Folding Lantern, which she uses as a night light in her bedroom, every night. Since she needs to use a cane, now, she has to have some light, in order to not trip over things at night.

I think the Princeton Tec series of lights are great for non-flashaholics--yes, even the problematic Surge (once the bulb socket solder is corrected). I've given away PT lights to family members, and they are very happy with them. For the most part, I've found PT lights to be bright, durable and they don't break the bank.
