hello

I received an E01 a few days ago and without the battery in it it rattles; you can see the spring moving about in the bottom when I shake it. Also sometimes when I twist it on or off there's a short flicker, like I twist and it goes on/off quickly then on.

I used to have an E01 that I lost after about a year of ownership and I never had the flicker, but I can't remember it rattling.

Anyone else have any similar experiences?

Thanks,
-h.

EDIT: FWIW it's a blue one. I remember there being some discussion when they first came out about differences in quality between colours. (PS: the blue is a great colour!!)

well it was straight out of the box so I didn't think it should need cleaning. But ok, I've wiped the contacts and it's still doing it.

All 4 contact points?

And yes, every light needs cleaned prior to use to get machining oils off.

Thanks, I didn't realise that.

Well I've wiped down the circuit board in the head, not the spring because I can't get to it right now.

I think it might be that I'm not turning it fully on; on my first E01 you couldn't turn it any further once the light turned on, on this one there's a little bit of turn left in it once the light goes on. I guess I'll just have to make sure I turn it fully on in future.

How much do you have to keep turning it once it lights up? 1mm? 2 mm?
Check the base of the head where the contacts are and see if the contact/board area sits flush with the threads.

around 5mm. I don't have a ruler but if you have an E01 handy, I can continue turning for 5 or 6 of the serial number markings (not the "Fenix E01" on the flat panel, I mean the "00TGZS00126" just below the head).

Not sure what you mean by "see if the contact/board area sits flush with the threads". It's not wonky.

The board is slightly raised above the aluminium but it seems fine. I'll take some pics tonight.

Also, just noticed that when it's off, I can push down on the head and it'll turn back on.

I think I'll see how much it'll cost me to return it. It might be cheaper just to buy another.

i've had my E01 for about a year, it sees frequent use for home navigation, fishing etc. I posted another thread saying that my E01 would flicker and that i needed to REALLY tighten it before it would turn on, as in, tighten using normal strength till it can't go any further then use full strength to tighten even more.

Unscrewed the head and saw that there were black marks on the contact point in the head, and get this, i just used the eraser at the end of a pencil to clean it. I learned this little trick from a cell phone guy who OEM-ed batteries, accessories etc.

Thanks, that's useful experience. I'll try the eraser trick. I'm still a little disturbed that I can push the head down and switch it on. I'm sure I couldn't do that on the old one.
