Last week, before I went to Scout camp, I went to my local Rite-Aid and purchased a 4 pack of Energizer Lithiums for my LD20. They worked great, and in fact, after a week of using turbo mode for long periods of time, and impressing my fellow scouts, I'm still on my first set.
My questions (and observations) are as follows:
1) When I use my LD20 in General mode, it turns on in medium, when low is selected output (~47 lumens). But I then step through the following modes , and it shows no difference in output between low and medium. Today I was using the light in my basement, and noticed that medium output has developed a flicker.
2) Have I fried the internal circuitry? I don't think so, because when I put in some new alkalines momentarily, I still have a normal low output, with the step up to medium, and so on.
3) Is the voltage of these batteries too high? Or could they be providing too much current, and the driver steps up to medium to handle it? I think this is right because if I use turbo for about 5-10 minutes, I "find" low again (it works as normal, offering me all three levels of output in General mode).
4) Denatured alcohol will clean contacts and threads, right? i don't wish to damage my light in any way, but also am unable to send away for more expensive cleaning solutions.
5) Could physical damage be responsible? I was showing the light to a few of my fellow scouts, when one asked to see it. He seemed like a responsible enough guy, has a few expensive guitars, and brought one with him, so I thought he would take care of it. Wrong. when he asked how much it cost me, I replied, "about $60". He said that's cool, turned it off, and threw it back to me over his shoulder, when I was about 8 feet from him. In the gloom of the evening, that black flashlight was impossible to see. It landed head first on the gravel road, from about 5 feet in the air. It wasn't physically damaged (visibly); no anodizing was scraped off, no dents or scrapes, so I yelled at him, and he took off. What a bast***! If it had been damaged (glass lens cracked, anodizing chipped, etc), I would have demanded a replacement

I also wanted to start this thread to allow other noobs like me to ask their own questions about the LD20, so fellow CPF noobies, ask away...
Thank you.
