I have been looking at my Fenix lights and on all of them there are gaps between the led and ring.

And there is also rustish looking discololoration on the same are...

Has anyone else noticed it or am I just getting bad lights?

I had the same issues with both of my L2Ds, all my other Fenix lights have been OK but other some of my lights from other manufacturers have the same thing. Is not a real issue as long as the beam is not seriously off centre and useable (all of mine have been fine).

IIRC some of the Cree XR-E domes aren't centered on the LED(I think I've seen some). Because of this the LED's dome would not be centered in the reflector but the LED's die is. Either way, it changes the beampattern.

I'm not sure about the discoloration.

I've had some l2ds with rustish color. also there is a slight gap that is less prevalent on my d10. doesn't seem to affect the beam.

I had several of each Fenix models and have also found some off centered consequently affecting beam pattern. I have also found rust looking matters at the metal rings.:scowl: Fenix has to be very strict in their quality control. The off center thing is usually quite prevalent in Fenix than other brands.

Has anyone contacted Fenix?

Or would it be a waste of time?

Here is a pic.

Although it's blury you can still see the gap.

I emailed and sent a pic to Joyce(Fenix) and she essentially said "We did it intentionally don't worry about it and all Fenix lights are like that."

But I have seen pics in the Fenix thread with perfectly centered diodes and there's is also rust looking discoloration around the led rim too.

Now I'm waiting to hear back from her.

Are you sure you got the right email address? Or she could be drunk when she replied you. I'm sure 4/7 won't like her answer. Can you post her reply just for the record? Fenix had made a good reputation before... I don't know why lately their product suffered a lot of quality issues. Fenix, wake up!

Make along story short thety said it's intentional and don't worry about it.

Here is the attached picture she sent with the last email

And I showed her some pics from the fenix picture thread and asked her why those were centered diodes and she never responded.

This is one of the pics I sent from our fenix thread on this forum

They said that the gap varies and it's normal to explain the appearance of no gap on some Fenix lights.

As mentioned before, several of my Fenix L1D has the defects also and getting them changed won't be cheap . This problem could also **** off dealers as well. These lights are not cheapies you see on supermarket counter stands. Most of us who bought them knows why they are not that cheap and are willing to pay the price for quality and performance. Imagine, like my last purchase, I bought 3 pcs. L1D Q5. 1 has rust and off centered, and 2 have off centered and fine scratches.
