Is there much of a difference between the Fenix LxT series and the LDx0 series? They all take AA batteries, but the LDx0 has the annoying strobe/SOS. Is that it, or is one series newer?

LDx are a bit brighter in the highest setting by sacrifying runtime, they have "improved" design and functions but if I had to choose I'd go for a LxD, they are more efficient.

The only thing I don't like about the LxD series is the annoying Strobe and SOS modes. Other than that, I love the really low Lo mode.

Unlike the DX multimode with memory which forces you to cycle through the strobe and SOS modes, the Fenix D series do not.

'DX' Multimode with memory example
high > medium > low > strobe >SOS > high
To go from medium or low back to high you have to go through strobe and SOS.

Fenix (I will use use L0D as the example)
medium > low > high > strobe >SOS > medium
The cycle chart may look the same but you can do this
medium > low > high > off 3+ seconds > medium or
medium > low > off 3+ seconds > medium or
medium > off 3+ seconds > medium and never see the blinking modes.
Similarly with the Fenix L1D/LD01 you never see the blinking modes unless you want to. Just do not soft press the button too many times.

The LxT series have a forward clicky. They have only 2 modes which are operated by tightening the bezel.

The LDx0 have a slightly higher high mode and a slightly lower low mode. They have 4 brightness settings giving more versatility as well as strobe and SOS which many have mixed feelings about.

I have the LD20. You left out that the light has two modes which you access by slightly loosening or tightening the bezel. If the bezel is fully tightened, the light comes on at Turbo (highest brightness). If you press the button, it activates the strobe. If you loosen the bezel (whether in turbo or strobe) you go straight to low. Then, each press brings you up through medium, then high, then SOS and one more press takes you back to low. This is a great way to minimize and organize the modes, IMO.

It's much less complicated than it seems (having read my entry for typos) and in use, it's quite easy to cycle through. If you want brightest, keep the bezel tightened. If you want the lowest, just loosen the bezel before turning it on. Simple.

Unfortunately, the LxT series seem to be considered as a second class one by the manufacturer. :sigh:

It would be great if these lights could include the last generation regulation circuits (constant current) as well as last generation emitters (Q5/R2).

Many people just want simple lights with the simplest possible user interface. For me, having two modes is just perfect. The user only chooses long runtime or high output.

Exactly.

And despite advertized as such I certainly wouldn't call LDx0 able to "securely stand on tail to serve as a candle".
The older LxD and LxT are better in that respect.

Yes - they are able to tail stand but very insecure and even a mosquito fart will knock them over. Take a look at a picture and you'll quickly realize why. May or may not be a big deal for You.
