I can use the money to get 2 T1s but only 1 L1 Cree. It's hard to decide. I know the L1 looks much nicers and probably have better quality than the T1, but still ... Help Please.

I was in the same predicament as you.

This is my thinking ... buy the surefire L1 first cause its awesome and you wont regret having it. Then buy a fenix later on as your "beater light".

:)

These two light are in completely different categories as far as the intended use of them.

What do YOU intend to use the light for? This will help us answer the question.

They are such different lights. If I could only have 1 light, I would want a smaller light to edc.

It seems that most everyone really likes the L1. Choosing it might be a really good decision.

Personaly, I would go with A Fenix P2D Q5 1x123a light to always have on you, and the T1 as a medium sized light for added brightness and throw. I think you should be at about the same $$$ and you would have 2 great lights.

Fooboy: I know the L1 is awesome from all the reviews I read, but is it $135 awesome?

NickDrak: I don't see them being too different from each other. Both have two output modes. T1 is bigger because it uses 2 CR123 comparing to the 1 in L1.
Things I like about T1: Fenix product is good for the money, looks pretty tough, I like the clip, very nice output
Things I like about L1: looks sooo nice from all the pictures I saw, such high level of workmanship, 1 battery, probably the best beam

woodrow: I'm edc'ing a P3D Q5 currently and like it very much. I had a P2D, but it was a little small for me. Now my grandma is edcing my old P2d. She said she likes the size of it, but I doubt she knows how to change the settings, ahhhhh I ll teach her when time comes

Gunner12: I don't really do anything with them, just like to have something kicka$$ around if i do need them

BUT DARN, THE L1 LOOKS SEXY !!!!!! but $135 worth of sexiness ? ugrrrrrrr ...

nobita, the L1 is worth every .01, at least to me. I have both the T1 and the L1 Cree. The L1 fits the hand perfect. The two stages are much more intuitive than the twist action of the Fenix, especially due to the poor-planned pocket clip. That said, the T1 is freakin' bright with awesome throw. It is very solid feeling. The T1 is pretty big and heavy, though. If I had to pick one to keep, it would be the L1, unless extreme throw is very important to you.

The surefire L1 would be a good choice for EDC and general use plus it has one of the best warrenty. The fenix T1 is thicker, heavier, and brighter but not that much brighter than the P3D Q5, so get the L1

I own both lights and will say without a second thought...buy the Surefire L1. It is more expensive but worth every penny. The T1 has good output but I still feel I paid too much for what it is. If you have the chance to see both in person, feel them in you hand, use them, and test their functionality and EDC-ability I think you will quickly come to the same conclusion. The L1 is one heck an illumination tool and the T1 is a needlessly overbuilt though bright flashlight. Hope this helps.

T1 is a little big for an EDC and if you run it over with a car you got scrap metal. Run over an L1 and you have a useable flashlight. I've seen it happen. I wouldn't recommend trying it though. I have a T1 and 3 L1's.

This is purely a coincidence. I just sold my T1 (within minutes of my last posting). I will never sell my L1. Hmm, what to do with my new income...time to buy another Surefire

Have you ran over your T1 with a vehicle? If you have I would like to see video of that cause I'm pretty positive I could run over a T1 and it would still be a functioning light.

Also the L1 I'm positive could handle a vehicle also, but how do you come to the conclusion and go from it is a little big for EDC to if it was ran over by a vehicle it would be scrap metal?

That is a baiting post if I have ever seen one.

The T1 also weighs 3x what the L1 does. It is much bigger. Not only because of the difference of 2xCR123 vs 1xCR123, but the bezel of the T1 is also much bigger than the L1. These differences seperate the two lights far enough apart to place them each in completely different categories.

Aside from the size/weight difference, the Surefire L1 was designed to be a "EDC" pocket compact light, and the Fenix T1 was designed to be Fenix's first entry into the "Tactical" Duty light market. Two completely different lights for two completely different markets.

I'm also thinking the T1 could handle being driven over and still function,it's one solid hunk o' metal. I bought mine as nothing more than a toy, no real practical need. I'd been researching ( and lusting after) the tiablos, the dereelights, the lumapowers, but the low price ( and fenix name) sold me on this one, and i'm happy. BUT......just last night i sold my brother my SF 6PL to help finance a L1. I'm "negotiating" with batteryjunction right now (trying to see if they'll swap out the free tenergy batteries for some panasonics or sanyos).
but enough rambling, seems to me it comes down to surefires overall quality, warranty, beam quality and the smaller size and weight, plus the single battery configuration.
Then again, on a more practical note, Woodrows suggestion of getting the T1 AND the P2D Q5 for about the same money really makes alot of sense, too.

Valpo Hawkeye: the L1 is 60/10 whereas the T1 is 225/60. That is a big dufference. For brightness alone you would have to go for the T1 right?
Do you know how much brighter the T1 is? I read SF underrates & Fenix overrates

jbosman1013: yeah, another great thing about SF is its warranty. I heard it's lifetime no question asked? sounds suspicious

Daylo: I wish I can test both of them before buying, but I don't have the access. That's too bad.

I can imagine the T1 is extremely strong, at least more so than the P3D. I read the P3D torture test thread and that thing is tough. The T1 & L1 are probably equally strong

NickDrak: I forgot the weight. Yeah the T1 is bulkier than L1

Saiga: :D. Looks to me it's a win-win situation

DAMN ? this sucks

You're not going to be getting your money's worth out of the L1 unless you use it often. If you don't really do anything with them, you should get the cheaper light.

So then does it make more sense to compare the Fenix T1 with the Surefire L4?

No, one's a flooder and one's a thrower.

nobita, there's more to value than brightness. The T1 is significantly brighter than the L1. However, if I don't have it in my pocket because it's huge and heavy, the effective output is 0 lumens. The T1 is a nice light. The throw is impressive. However, my point was that, to me and for my uses, the SF L1 Cree is worth the $135 (can be had in the $100-$110 range).

I'm not disparaging the T1 I own one and love it, but until I see one run over by a Crown Victoria and function, I will say the L1 is the tougher light.
