Fenix TK30 - Lack of Concentricity of Extension Tube Damaged my Protected AW...

I just received a package full of protected AW 18650s (2600 mAh) for my TK30. They have a fairly tight fit in the TK30 tube to begin with. When Sliding the batteries into position, I encountered extra resistance where the battery meets the connection between the main tube and extension tube. After a minute of fiddling with it, I broke down and removed the head to get the forward battery into position.

When all was said and done, I noticed that a piece of the insulation on the side of the AW cell was displaced, exposing bare metal that is electrically common with the positive (+) terminal of the battery. Not a very desirable condition when the flashlight tube is common with the negative (-) terminal of the battery!

My examination revealed that the main tube and the extension tube are not concentric--they are slightly offset. This prevents the batter from sliding all the way through the tubes... and provides a nice lip to catch the battery and damage the insulation

Should I exchange the light? Am I expecting too much from my light?

I placed some electrical tape over the exposed metal on the battery... but that makes it too large to fit in the TK30 tube (it does fit in my Catapult V2 tube with the tape).

I would definitely NOT want a flashlight which does that ! ! !

:shakehead

If they can't supply a Corrected Replacement, then Forget It ! ! !

But then, that's just me.

Oh, by the way . . . .

Welcome to CandlePowerForums !

Good Luck.

I purchased the light from 4Sevens. I have contacted them to see what my options are. We'll see..........

If a replacement is not an option, a quick pass with a boring bar should fix your problem. PM me if you'd like it bored out slightly.
