Strange title I know, first let me say Hi. As I stated this is my first post, I've been lurking here for about 4 days now and already ordered the M-MM Plus Q3 so hopefully I'm started in a good direction. I've got a Photon light that I've had for about 2 years and I noticed it's been getting dim so I bought 2 new Panasonic CR2016 batteries today. I had forgotten how bright that thing was when new, anyway my observance. I used my digital VOM and measured the old batteries and got 3.08 on one and 3.10 on the other, then I checked the new ones and got 2.96 on one and 2.91 on the other!!!!!!! Why is my output now 100% brighter then before with less measured voltage, it's a head scratcher for me. I also measured the voltage on the batteries on my Surefire 6z that has the original Duracell batteries and for as much as I used it, both still measure 3.06 and the Surefire batteries in my E2 that is about a year old measured 3.05.
If anyone has an answer to my question I'd appreciate some input. Now I have a question for the other forum. Thanks
Regards SonnyD

Congratulations on your first post. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know that coin lithium cells exhibit a strange effect with regard to their voltage. They may start out low and the static (no load) voltage will increase as the cell gets depleted. The reason why your Photon light is dimmer is partially depleted cells can't source the same current as new ones because the internal resistance is higher. Since you checked the voltage with a relatively high impedance load (your VOM) the internal resistance played an insignificant role in the measurement.

As for WHY coin cells do this, I have no idea. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif

Thank you, that makes sense. I appreciate your input. I feel myself getting very addicted to this, and at least it's a fairly inexpensive addiction, well at least so far.

Inexpensive.....well, so far. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am addicted to computers/electronics, R/C, and now flashlights...what next?!? Each of these has its own hefty price tag.

Welcome to CPF.

The MadMax+ Q3 was a very auspicious start. When you receive it, you're in for a pleasant surprise.

Thanks guys. It seems like I also run the course of hobbies, I too was/I'am, into RC cars, still got thousands of dollars worth of cars/parts/Radios/batteries/chargers, etc. now all worth probably about 100 bucks! I appreciate all the help everyone has given me. I went on a shopping trip last night trying to find a Brinkmann Legend and all I could find was the LX. I probably should have ordered the Kroll switch when I placed my order. I got a confirmation from Wayne that My order has been shipped, Yippeeee!, I sprung for the priority mail so it shouldn't take too long. I would get both lights but like I said all I can find in the Brinkmann line is the LX, and the Black Max, which someone told me was kind of a tight fit for the components. I tried everyplace I could think of last night from Wal Mart to Kmart, Home Depot. I'll probably go to Wal Mart tonight and at least by the Mini mag. Thanks guys, this "newbie" really appreciates your Expertise and opinions.
Best Regards SonnyD
