A few more , Only the Real Steel is recent vintage , the others are 40 years old or there about .

The handle on your 100 yr old Mora looks kind of like my 1980's Rapala by Marttiini filet knife. Same color wood, but slightly different shape. Mine looks like this but without the finger groove. Time has cracked the varnish, so I may have to re-handle it some day, if I survive the handle!

I was surprised .... I purchased two Mora's , the one I wanted was a 70's laminated steel .. And the 100 year old Mora was just a Rusty extra . I then went about cleaning the rusty old Mora and it cleaned up real nice . Looks like it was never used and was rusting in the sheath which was rotting away !
I then went about chasing up the tang stamp ................................ and .......................... got a surprise ! One seriously old Mora !
 
When money is toilet paper / No / When money is worth less than toilet paper !
What are you worth ? = The sum of your toys !
A) Life is for living or having fun
B) If your fun is worth something after your done having fun
C) it's not like spending money on stuff that goes No1 or No2 or goes up in smoke !
Knives will always be worth something .. So I consider it a transfer of value from something liquid to something solid ( cash being liquid )

it's a hobby / it's an addiction / it's a transfer of value / and in the long run possibly Value Added .
And push come to shove , trade goods !
Money only has a function as long as
A) It's an agreed upon value
B) There is something to buy

Once money becomes useless - What's it worth ? Ur probably better of with a million rolls of toilet paper .
Here in Oz : People were fighting each other for Toilet paper during C19 .
Just a small problem and people turned into toilet paper hunting animals !
Just imagine a big problem !!!

So my hobby / interest / addiction = isn't so bad !
When I reach retirement age ( if ) I will sell the more collectable's and buy food & drink ( No1's & No2's )

I started buying around 25 years ago ( Thanks Feebay ) , and back then almost every knife was 10 to 25 dollars ( bids ) .. I was running bids almost 24 / 7 ( low bids ) and picking up knives here and there for cheap ( US made knives ) . Those cheap knives are now some what out of my price range and I am concentrating on Chinese knives , as many of them are actually quite decent . OK , there is some rubbish , but generally they are getting better and better .
See recently posted slip joint review ! I'm a collector .... And should the unthinkable happen , loaded with trade goods . ( Barter )

That's an older Bohler N690 steel version. I'm not a steel snob, and really like it. The handle is one of the most comfortable of the bunch. Even if a forward choil on a blade this size doesn't excite me. It's a great blade.

You have a huge number of them. I wonder how the rusty steel ones fare in their sheaths for a long time, do they rust little by little or is the climate quite dry? Mine start to rust after about 3-4 years of storage, so I store them separately from the sheaths

Found in a closet, I forgot about it for a few years. Needs sharpening. Someone ruined the file, turning it into a knife

No . the carbon knives do rust !
So every year or two I got to get in there with some oil & steel wool ..
It just depends , older knives or knives that have already suffered surface corrosion or blood !
Do tend to rust , and some sheaths cause rust ( Moisture ? )

Been meaning to buy a HEAT Gun , and blast some of the problem sheaths ( Leather ) .. Dry them out .
Any moisture can cause problems , even oil ! Maybe vegetable oil is ok ?

For me , it's not a huge problem .. But you can't wait to long to do some maintenance .
COS , once the blade corrodes , it will always corrode at the same spot unless you can really clean it out . ( Steel Wool )

My friend taught me 1 trick, it works well, but again only for 3-4 years, if in a sheath, without a sheath it does not rust, in nature it can start to rust, if not wiped from water and blood already on the 2nd day. I take a knife, heat it over a fire so that it is hot enough, maybe 70-80 Celsius, and wipe it with mineral oil. When the metal is hot, the oil is well absorbed into the pores

Yeas , heat and oil .. The heat drives out the moisture and the oil leaves a protective coating .
I use WD40 cos it displaces moisture and leaves a thin dry film behind . ( Easier )

For long term storage , oil and cling wrap the blade .. Or WD40 and cling wrap .
If you have a tight sheath (?) best not to sheath it ( knife )
My collector pocket knives are WD40 'ed and wrapped in paper towel ..
Remember to keep your fingers hands off when putting into storage .
