When I joined up here I found it to be one of the friendliest forums on the internet. I am a member of several other boards that have gotten unfriendlier as they got bigger. It may be a function of growth, that as a community increases in size an element of discontent naturally arises. My observation is that most of these tirades, not speaking about this particular thread, are designed purely for antagonistic effect, and have no real constructive purpose or value. I'm glad I don't have to make a call on these and can choose to ignore posts.
I don't view this forum as heavily moderated. If the moderators didn't have a love of lights they wouldn't be here.
Here's hoping we don't get into the fighting that characterizes many discussion sites. We've got a good thing here.

I myself freely assert that I am only human. I've met Al a few times, and he's no deity either ......
[EDIT: Now, Sasha, she's a different consideration entirely !!]

"Argument" and discussion are the way forward, but it's easier if the way chosen is polite and reasonable - on/from all sides.

I think perhaps things could be cleared up a bit if we define the duties of the admins and mods. In all actuality, their duties are strictly administrative... as in, they are there to make sure that everyone follows the rules. If the topic starts to drift, the mod moves it to the proper forum. If someone is posting stuff that is out of line (rude, lude, socially unacceptable), they choose to either delete the offense themselves or ask the poster to remove it. Basically, they are "babysitters" (for lack of a better term) for their forums so that one person (David) doesn't have to read every single thread, every single minute to make sure that all is running smoothly.

No one ever said or, as far as I know, implied that just because someone was a moderator of a certain forum, that they were an expert in that area. Hell I'm an administrator! That would make me an expert on every topic on this board... and we all know what a load of crap that is...

Too much importance is being put on the title of admin or mod here. The moderators are only there to keep the forum running smoothly. The title does not imply any kind of expertise in any area at all... Does everyone understand that? And administrators are around to kep the whole board running smoothly. Admins (obviously) have more "power" than mods. And don't go getting your panties in a bunch over that! By "power" I mean that they are not limited to just one or two forums. They have the ability to move, delete, edit etc every forum on the board whereas the mods are limited to only thier forums. That's it folks!! That's all there is to it. Nothing more, nothing less.

There is really only ONE ultimate authority on CPF... DavidW. He has put his trust in a few to cover for him when he can't be here. Those few have EARNED David's respect. It's not up to anyone to question that.

Flasher... yes, we have figured out who you are. (Trevor sweety, you're safe...

) But it's a moot point now, isn't it? This was a rather childish game for you to play. And it managed to disrupt the entire community. I doubt it was appreciated by anyone but artar. And I'm still failing to see what his point is...

Bottom line is this... If you don't like it, then go somewhere else. No one is forcing you to stay here and put up with something that you obviously find unacceptable. It's David's board, he doesn't see a problem with it, case closed.

i never wanted offend someone personally.

if i did so i apologize.

i only wanted him notice his behaviour.

we are here on a (flash-)light discussion board and should discuss about flashlights.

for me the topic is closed.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">How?

I doubt it was appreciated by anyone but artar. And I'm still failing to see what his point is...
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Keep in mind that Artar's motherlanguage is not english, so he may have a harder time getting his point across.

Greetings,

Disruption - you really need to ask ??

One answer could be because it negatively altered the atmosphere, and introduced the spectacle of a regular posting member who made a new identity to make a point. What he said could easily have been dealt with in a plain enquiry and open debate. It seems a little over-anxious, let's say paranoid.

But he's expressed too much outright hostility to allow for anything worthwhile now.

Whatever language he naturally speaks, artar has made a few points without any ambiguity.

I like Sasha's point.

We moderators and admins are first and foremost members here at the CPF. 99% or our time on the boards is spent reading and posting just like the normal, everyday members that we are. Once in a blue moon it gets really exciting, and somebody decides, in a moment of confusion, to try and sell something in the LED forum. When that happens, I quickly don my jester's.... uh, my moderator's hat and move the bugger.

We're members who own flashlights (well, most of us - Sasha) and we like to talk about them. I'm not even bothering to specifically defend Al's posts here. He's a big boy, and doesn't need any hand-holding. I'm defending the mods and the admins in general - we were verbally attacked somewhat as a group early on. And I wasn't all that happy about it. We're members, we're people, we volunteer 100% of our time, we make mistakes, we're passionate about lighting instruments, and we have a common goal: We work for and wish for a friendly, open place to discuss our passion.

We all put a bit of effort into achieving that goal, and it is a rather thankless job. Seeing that goal realized is about all any of us needs to make it worth while.

OK. <groan> Off my box.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Alright folks.....I've been reading in the background long enough. When it gets to the point that someone has to put together a "secret" identity" in a flashlight forum and make anonymous posts.....I about have to laugh. We have to be very careful about doing things like this people. Before you know it......we'll have mattress tags that can be removed without a penalty.....dogs sleeping with cats.....total anarchy.

And hey Flasher......pssst......dude.....psst.....if you need in a witness protection program.....let me know........my brothers a t.v. repairman dude......he's got this awesome set of tools......I can fix this for you. (That last part of this is a qouote from 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High'.....for those that didn't get it)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Darrel, quit lying. You mean 99% of ALL of your time is spent POSTING to the boards. You probably have your wife give you a summary of each thread so you can have more time to post to them. So yeah, it is 99% of your WAKING time you spend here POSTING to the boards.

Spud

(not that it would be hard to tell, but I was simply joking).

Well, it is 7:20...off to breakfast for me so I can get to Chem (HAH, easy class, basically first semester is the EXACT same stuff I did two years ago.
