Moms not a technophobe, but simple is better. Need a good house flashlight. Nothing fancy, but bright, floody, and reliable.
Criteria (~$50)
1) Bombproof (e.g. momproof). She can be tough on equipment and she has a place in the country with 30,000 dogs. Doesn't need to be surefire, but it needs to not be flakey. If it stops working for some reason, she'll take it apart before she calls me and then it's a paper weight.
2) Simple modes, no disco unless well hidden. She needs 200+ lmns and 50 lmns. Find the damn dog and make sammiches when the power's out. Three modes would be OK, if the UI is simple (e.g. EagleTac)
3) Size is no object. Something hefty enough to not be carried off by a jack russell or doberman might even score bonus points.
4) She's got 462 NiMH batteries and a dozen chargers (which I intend to cull when home for X-mas), so AA format would be premium. I may even toss in some eneloops.
If they made an iTP Polestar with 2 modes (500 and 50) I'd be all over that. Unfortunately, the actual polestar UI is not ideal for Mom. Everything else would be perfect.
Are there any reputable host/drop-in setups that would work?
Right now I'm torn between a Quark AA2 tactical and an ebay Polestar. Neither is anywhere near ideal I think. I know there are many great choices out there, but I just can't afford them right now.
