Flashlight Lifecycle

I'm new here and trying to understand the lifecycle of a new light.
I bought an ITP C6 & C7. They were discontinued 2 weeks later.
I bought a LF2XT and missed the buzz.
I was waiting for non camo MG PLI and missed the boat!

So is it
3 months of hype and pre sales
3 months of reviews and comparisons
3 or more months of sales and production
and within 1 year - discontinued?

This seems like it is for the smaller guys/distributors.
Is it the same for the bigger manufacturers?
