I ordered this light a week ago and wondered if anyone knows much about it.
I have an existing 12v pack I plan on running it off of, but didn't know if that's possible with the onboard Buck boost.
I was planning on cutting down the battery housing to use as a helmet light and mounting it with a flashlight mount I found on Batteryspace.com.
Anyone have any insight?

I purchased one of those lights too with the idea of making it into a bike light and I may still do so. The problem is it runs on 4 x CR123 batteries which equals 14.4V or so. A 12V pack will likely not be enough with the existing driver so you'd need to change it for a boast driver. Something like the MaxFlex (http://www.taskled.com/maxflex.html) with the bike specific UI is what I'd probably suggest.

:wtf: where and how did you come up with 14.4V?!
reread that again!
CR123A [aka lithium primaries] give off 3V, your thinking li-ion cells, which are rated 3.6V

you could use a 12V battery pack, how do you plan to wire it?

Good point. I was actually quoting 14.4V based on 4 x 3.6V rechargeable li-ion cells. The MX Power 3 Cree light is spec'd as "Powered by 4 x CR123A 3.0V / 3.6V batteries" so yes a 12V pack should work.

Sorry for the misinformation!

Has anyone got one of these lights yet ? If so what's the output like ? Beam pattern ? any photos ?

I'm not sure of the beam pattern but when I get the thing I'll take some beam shot's and post them.
It does look similar to the Tri-Newt lenses but obviously it's not the same animal.
If the beam pattern is not suitable I'm hoping to install some other optics, I do have an MR16 lens and some loose Cree lenses from Kaidomain.com.
I only bought the light because you can't build a unit like this for anywhere near this price, maybe twice that.
I am planning on wiring it into the existing "clicky" switch on the back of the light, running the power cord in through the side of the battery housing, using the existing wiring as much as possible.
I plan on doing all of this like my Maglite Triple Cree mod I posted a few weeks ago.

It's great because most of the hard work has been done for you...
