Found it at Wal-Mart in the camping section for $0.86.

The cells don't fit perfectly, so I used some 1" webbing to make it a snug fit.

I'm new here so please go easy on me. Does it affect the batteries in any way if the pos and neg ends are touching inside that container? I know the lithium batteries have a 10 yr shelf life. Just not sure about them touching.

Positive and negative touching should not be a problem; there's no closed circuit. Amondotech used to sell battery packs made out of multiple shrink-wrapped and matched cells -- do they still?

In case you're still worried about that, you could put in the batteries with the two negative sides facing each other. CR123As have a ring of wrapper at the edge of the negative terminal that should insulate.

I understand that you can also use the "Advanced" film containers to store two 123s side by side and that most photo processing places just throw them away and will give them to you if you ask. Next time you are at Walmart ask about them at the photo counter.

Those orange match stick tubes are what I have been using for a while now, cant beat them.
Beware, the green ones are NOT as long and most of the time will NOT hold the cells.

I used a pad of foam/filt in the lid of mine to stop the rattle.
For about a buck each, you just cant beat them.
If they had a lanyard hole at the top they would be PERFECT.

Hi,
Please excuse what may be an unbelievably technically-ignorant question. If I have found a metal single-cell keychain battery fob that contacts the battery on both ends (because it is such a tight fit) is this going to either drain the battery, or start heating up the fob? Thank you!

You MUST isolate at least one end.
Do NOT stick a cell in that all metal container,
Baaaaad things will happen.
Especially if it is a Lithium...... BOOM !!!!

I find sticking some foam, plastic, etc, in the cap works best.
I would advice against tape, that can rub through after time.

Hey, we all get to ask dumb questions, I know I do !

I have one of those tubes in my bag with spare fishing line and some hooks and weights in it...look on the bottom, most of them have a flint too! just strike it with a piece of metal, the blade of a cheapo knife, or the back of the blade on a good knife...good to know you cna use it to start a fire if needed...

Been using these for a LONG time like many CPFers and they are great. Like jtice says, use some foam on the top and bottom to prevent rattle and especially with the all metal ones! The orange ones are the ones you want and I've had no problems stacking them + to - like in a light.

Thanks for the link. I just ordered one for myself.:nana: I didn't want to buy the Cr123, AA, AAA cases from DealExtreme which came in a set!
I have this set at home, pretty good for that price but not watertight at all. The batteries don't rattle inside.
