I guess I don't know my own strength, I managed to strip the 2 nuts/bolts that hold the compound at the angle I want it at.

Does anyone know where I can find higher quality replacements?

Thanks! I'll have to peruse their catalogue later

I don't know if you have an Ace Hardware near you but the one close to me carries an awful lot of bolts, nuts screws etc...

The Ace hardware doesn't have much of a selection, but the new Runnings might have something I can use.

A pair of 1/4-20 square nuts and a pair of (soon to be 3/4") SST 1/4-20 machine screws, and I'm back in business, with a better feel and clamp than before

So what is on the other end? For the stock hardware is it just a stud in a threaded hole? If yes I'd like to remove the studs & just use a hex head bolt (not button type though). I don't like how the nut will touch the gib adjustment screws if a corner of the nut is sticking out.

Instead of the "special" stud it came with, I put square nuts in the slot. The hex nut is just a spacer until I can get to town and pick up some 3/4" bolts. Either a standard or button bolt should work, and since they're both round, they give a fair amount more clearance from the gib adjustment screws than stock. I'm probably going to pick up the straight rather than the button tops though, that way if I slip with the t-wrench, I can still use a pliers to get them out.

I see. Thanks for the info. Yeah regular hex heads would be best. Button top hex heads aren't good for higher torque (very easy to strip) but they do look good.

Pretty much any setup like this makes a bit more sense to me than the stock setup, and it looks nicer IMHO.

Are you sure that the original threads are 1/4"-20? I can't imagine the chinese using imperial thread hardware, but anything's possible...

Edit: Nevermind, I just re-read and noticed you put 1/4"-20 square nuts on the bottom..

I highly doubt that the original threads are 1/4"-20. The thing is though, I replaced the bolts and the nuts, because I couldn't find the same type of bolt that came with it. So now there's a nut on the bottom, and a bolt on top, not the opposite it came as.
