Does the Fraen LP optics work exactly the way an NX05 does, interchangeable with no modifying?? I want to get a couple and need to know before I order. Thanks for your time! Doug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Went ahead and ordered a couple /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Doug, no modifications are necessary, it's a drop-in replacement. Be aware that they are designed only for HD emitters, and will not give the proper results with a LD.

Thanks Peter,
That's what I thought!! I have a BB500 R2H that is screaming for me to get one of these! Doug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif as edited I went ahead and ordered a couple, should be interesting!

dtsoll,
If you want throw and a wider hotspot, although no side spill, the LP is great. My BB500 R2H puts out an insane amount of light for it's size when coupled with the Fraen LP. Don't forget to file down the tab before putting it in your light, Fraens can be a pain to align but worth it.

Thanks Bent,
On the topic of alignment, The hotspot on the BB500 R2H I have is on the side of the square. Does this mean I need to adjust the NX05?? Can I get it centered by adjusting? Thanks Doug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Edit: Yep, just worked on it a little and it's centered now! Thanks!

my fraens optic is slightly smaller in diameter than the NX05. i think this is part of the problem in alignment, it doesn't seat as well.

I know of a way to show how well they are aligned. A large (maybe 30mm) miniscus magnifier will allow you to see better the alignment you have. It seems the little extra space at the base of the LPs i.d. around the domes of the LEDs is the culprit. Crazy how such a little change in position can change the beam as much as it can. I have been trying to work out something but the closest I have come to a real good fix is the plastic rear of a 80 ma laser module I got from Deharrport Trading years ago. The catch is the open hole of this plastic part is not large enough for the dome and has to be reamed, so be carefull if you try it. A very thin and small oring that would fit over the dome could be the fix but I haven't been able to find an oring the right size yet. Even though they are harder to get aligned I do prefer the LPs to the NX05s hands down.

Clear heatshrink tubing of the right wall thickness. Put a short ring around the base of the Luxeon's lens dome.

resucitating and old thread:
you could also put one of the tiny o-rings that come with the 5mm LED in a the old-styly Infinity Ultras.
