G-Shock GW700A band...

I bought a GW700A G-Shock off eBay. It's a nice watch... atomic solar, etc etc.

However, it has one glaring flaw: a resin band. I hate non-nylon bands.

Anyway, I figured like every other G-Shock, I could just replace the band with one of the 8.3 billion replacement G-Shock bands... no problem, right?

Well... appearently the GW700A has a proprietary band. Instead of the traditional G-Shock band that is held together by 18mm (or whatever) spring pins, this one is actually screwed into a plastic column thing as well as the watch casing itself.

Well, that's probably a better design, and is stronger than most bands. But, I can't find a replacement non-resin band for it.

Another thing is the indiglo light is actually offset from the watch and pokes through the band.

I went to Walmart and looked at their G-Shocks, not a single one had a band like this.

All of my Googling has failed to find anything, either.

I emailled Casio. They were extremely unhelpful.

Anyone have any ideas?

That resin band encloses the watch and helps make the watch very shock resistant. You can take the band off, but I don't know of any replacement.

I didn't think that I would like the resin band, either, but after wearing it for a while, I like it just fine. The trick is to not wear it too tight.

I didn't catch what your objection to the backlight button is; it does stick through the watch band. But you can also set the watch up so that the backlight comes on automatically when you rise your arm and tilt it toward your face.

I hate proprietary bands. Reason enough not to buy a watch in my opinion. You are probably out of luck unless you try to custom-make something yourself, and that may not even be practical depending on exactly how this one works.

One possibility that should work no matter what, but may not suit you, would be to cut the existing strap off so only about a quarter inch is sticking out from either side of the watch. Drill a series of small holes along the edge of each stub, then sew a nylon watch strap to the stubs. It might be easier to just sell it. Good luck.

Not an objection, just a statement about a difficulty with replacing the band.

That's a good idea. I should get a replacement band from Casio in case I mess it up and give it a try.
