I know the G2 switch has been written about alot on this forum, with members modifying the switch, with everything from paperclips to the clickie from a Garrity. The latter I can not find in the UK and I am not keen on the paperclip method or unscrewing the bezel.
I am keen to prevent any accidental activation of the light but maintaining its water restistance and structure
Are there any alternatives available to create a LOTC or a switched action. Is the LOTC from a G2Z available on its own?
I think at some stage I saw a sleeve to take a kroll but have been unable to find this again.
Your thoughts would be appreciated

Spike, I have a number of extra Ozark Trail lights that I purchased at a time when WalMart wasn't stocking them. Since then they all seem to be back in stock and easy to find. I'd be happy to send you one for just the cost of shipping to the UK-a special CPF welcome to a newbie!

Lemme know!

I posted some pics on the last large G2 clickie thread of the "new" Ozark Trail AA, which has changed since the older model you have. The new ones have a yellow arrow on the front of the package that notes there is a spare bulb included. If you're in a Walmart and want to use this clickie, try to find an old one. The new ones have a different spring (which holds the spare bulb) and different attachments on the bottom of the clickie and requires a little tinkering. Also can't quite lock down the tailcap all the way as I could with the old one. It'll work, and it still fits, but not quite as well as the older model.

Interesting!

I have one newer Ozark, and two older ones from which the switch has been scavenged.

The newer one had a nicer enough beam from what the other two had, that I have left it alone.

Perhaps I will get one more new model for test purposes...

Incidently a Kroll or a RAM switch will screw into the older lights just fine.

Well this was my first mod and I'm still not sure I did it "right." New G2-BK and a Garrity "Ozark Trail" new style. Read the old threads but I think I deviated a bit. I took the new clickie and placed it in the tail end of the barrel. Took the Garrity rubber thumb cover and slapped the salvaged extra O-rinbg on it before placing it in the G2 tailcap. No use of any portion of the Garrity spare bulb spring nor of the original G2 spring from the tailpiece. It works fine although battery changes will necessarily be made from the lamp end of the G2.

So... did I do something wrong tonight? Meaning since I am not using any extra spring other than that inherent in the clickie itself for the tailend and all the "real" spring action is with the dual lamp end, am I risking something in long term functionality / reliability?

I never did get a newer Garrity to try.

On an older one I use the button as well as the switch.

If I understand the pic above, you are actually using the G2 button to push the clickie???

I (we?) try to tweak the ears on the switch so it stays at the end of the body.

I have no idea what the long term effect might be!

Tossed the G2 button assembly with spring (shown out of focus on the side of the pic above) back into the blisterpak the G2 came in. I'm using the Garrity clickie switch and Garrity rubber thumbpad augmented with the extra O-ring from the Ozark unit set into the G2 nitrolon tailpiece.

UPDATE After a couple hours I went back and reattacked things. I took the larger part of the Garrity spring / extra lamp holder that I'd cut earlier and stretched the wide bottom loop until I was able to wrap it around the clickie's contact "bar". The spring now interfaces the clickie and batteries which is what earlier threads said to do. I feel much more confident in the mod now. And I salvaged a rubber lanyard from an old Garrity G-Tech 2D flash and installed it just like as you would a Surefire Z33. Works fine:)
