G2 Clickie

Thanks, sorry about the PM....I'll update my prefs. There are two little contacts on the sides of the clickie which I assume provide contact with the tube, and the larger contacts on the bottom of the clickie. Is this what you mean by "the spring that's attached to the Garrity clickie"? Sorry to be so dense about this, but am I correct in saying that you have no coiled spring whatsoever in your setup? Thanks....Rick

Well no wonder davidra was having problems. Garrity has completely changed the spring on the clickie of the "Ozark Trails" 2XAA! They've made it way longer with a space in the middle to hold a spare lamp.

davidra sent me some great pictures showing what he had. The new packaging now has a yellow arrow pointing to the tailcap and inside the arrow it says; "Spare Bulb In Bottom Cap". So you better snap up the old ones without this notice because the clickie springs on the old ones are much better for this mod! The clickies on these new Garrities will work but they don't have the nice springs of the old ones.

These are pics of the "new" light, including the clickie and the extended spring with extra bulb in place. By cutting the spring in half and fitting the larger half around the contacts on the bottom, I could get it to work...

An update: went to the same WalMart today. There were 8 lights there; the last one on the pin was the old style without the spare bulb. The clickie on the new one is definitely different. It's a little smaller; has two different prongs on the bottom (as you can see in the middle picture)and the spring is twice the size of the old one; additionally, on my first install with the new clickie, I can't tighten the tailcap all the way down without it interfering with the clickie, but after installing the "old" one, the tailcap tightens down fine. As was said, if you can get the old ones, now's the time.

I just pulled the spring out of the Surefire cap and used it. had to balance it, but it worked.

I'm gonna play with a more secure spring/switch setup so field battery changes are easier.

How'd you get the spring to contact the clickie? I tried that but couldn't get it to touch the little clips on the clickie consistently....

I finally got around to doing this mod to my G2. It is sweet! I found 2 of the older garrity lights at walmart.

As I read in Roy's thread..it seems the G2 seems to be "rediscovered" every couple of months by the newer members of CPF. A reasonably cheap..high quality Surefire thats easily modded to a clickie! Can't be beat!

Of course, getting the kit from the Shoppe is the right way to do it. I can only imagine the resistance that the foil introduces into the electrical pathway.

(of course, the ever cool "convert the G2 to use the sleeve from the B65 rechargeable battery with 3 123's and a P90" mod seems to pop up every now and then too. The G2 is a great light.)

If you buy the Garrity AA (Walmart 6.84)you can take the clickie out and drop that in your G2 real easy. A few pages back you'll see pics of the light to get.

Since the old Garrity is probably replace by the new Garrity, how do you get the new clickie with longer spring to work in the G2? How much of the spring do you cut off?

Does Walgreens carry the Garrity "Ozark Trails" 2XAA? I don't live near a Wal-Mart.

The pictures really help. Thanks. The big problem is finding one. I went to Walgreens in S.F. bay area and they have an aluminum Garrity with a side clickie. They had a black version and a light blue version. No bottom clickie switch version.
