:welcome:
The G2L was quickly changed soon after it was released to have an aluminium bezel rather than a Nitrolon bezel like the G2. This change was to allow the P60L LED Lamp Assembly to operate at a higher output close to what it operates at in the all-metal models such as the 6PL, Z2L etc.
LEDs generate heat. LED performance decreases when they get hot and their lifespan dramatically decreases when they get too hot for too long.
Nitrolon bezels are poor conductors of heat compared to aluminium.
In order to prevent damage to the LED the P60L has a thermal sensor that throttles back the power to the LED to prevent it from overheating.
In a G2 (with Nitrolon bezel) the P60L will stabilise at a lower output that is sustainable in the Nitrolon bezel.
In the G2L (with aluminium bezel) the P60L will stabilise at a more normal output.
An advantage of running a P60L in a G2 is that the lower output also means longer runtime from a set of SF123A batteries.
You could argue that the Nitrolon bezel is more abuse-resistant and gives the G2 a better balance because it's not as heavy.
I'd still get a G2L over a G2 though.

Edited to add:
You can 'upgrade' a G2 to to a G2L using the BP60L kit (a metal bezel and P60L LED Lamp Assembly).
The bezel individually is model Z44-BK (Black)
