I had the Garrity AA... It was heavy and I didn't really care for it. The switching mechanism was nice though.
I know that it's not the same thing, but I figure I'd add my $0.02

I have the Garrity 2 AAA. It is a bit on the heavy side, but lighter than a Mag 2AA. The length is almost exactly the same as the Mag 2AA. Not sure how you would get the plastic (nylon?) bulb holder out, drill it? The lense/reflector cap screws into the plastic bulb holder. So if you did drill it out, the LED would be exposed unless you glued in a cover or the plastic lens/reflector piece.
