GD Converter Open Load

I was testing a GD converter & the lead for the + LED disconnected while powered up. Now the output is very dim. Is my board fried because of open load? What fired, the IC? Is there anything I can check? I was really hoping to get this project done, now it's on hold.

The GD has no protection for no load. Since it tries to regulate current when there is no load it raises the output voltage (rises to infinity). When the output rises past 6V it kills the IC almost instantly.

It's probably in DD mode or something like that with the IC doing nothing now.
