Flashlight Enthusiast
Hi guys,
First of all, I haven't done much review, so bear with me. A Japanese friend helped me in getting this cool little light. As far as I know it is made in China and only sold in Japan. I dig single AA or AAA light. This is one of the light I am so impressed with.
Gentos Penclip Slim 0.5W AAA EN-041R
Specifications
LED: Nichia Rigel 0.5 watt + Optical Collimator
Body: Aluminium Alloy
Tailcap: Forward Clicky
Dimension: 18mm x 90mm
Weight: 36g (not including battery)
Power Source: 1x AAA 1.5V Battery
Similiar lights
The Gentos 1xAAA has a 2xAAA brother EN-042R which is a little longer. I assume that the higher voltage of the EN-042R enables more light output.
While digging for more information, I found a light Mini-Palm 0.5 Watt LED Torch which closely resemble the Gentos, it is an AA model, claim to have 26 lumens output. The circuit board of the Gentos shares the same marking(AL-12051AA) as the Mini-Palm model number.
Another close cousin of the Gentos is the Mini-Palm Luxeon III F-P1AA the only difference is, it is Luxeon and AA. I believe all of them come from the same factory.
A Closer Look

ArcAAA, CMG Sonic AAA, Nuwai 0.5W AAA, LiteFlux LF2, MAG Solitaire, Peak AAA, Gentos AAA, Peak SS AAA
Body knurling is very flat and civilized, no sharp edges. Anodize layer is thin not so good.
The tailcap is bright orange and a forward clicky. The lint around the tailcap is not included
.
Little spring there, it works pretty well, no battery rattle.
The optic is concave much like the Fraen optic except alot smaller.
The optic is secured by the plastic ring on the right. The head is 18mm, hmmm
nice place for a 17mm IMS reflector.... :naughty: This 'host' is very promising for modding.
The fact that it is fully aluminium alloy it can sink alot of heat. Good for a high
output, small, long throw light. That's the reason why it's here.
The optic works rather well, beam is like a mini Fraen optic.
The black disc between the bodytube and electronics is for reverse polarity protection.
Very simple implementation that works. The electronics module is threaded, it connects the
body and the head. It's glued so a little heat helps to unscrew.
Nichia Rigel, it's driven to about 3.00volts and the temperature is more than
40C, sorry I have not taken a stable measurement yet.
The boost converter. I will take more pictures when I unsolder the wires.
It is not a Zetex converter. It doesn't have any sense resistor, just an
inductor, cap and diode.
Comes with a clip, an AAA cell and heaps of kanji character that I can't read :mecry:.
Beamshots
The Nichia Rigel output is not as nice as the SSC or Luxeon. There is still the 5mm look-alike
beam but less, getting better but not perfect. Still get some light nichia blue in the hotspot.
The overral beam is similiar to the Fraen optic, except the hotspot is round. The hotspot is
ugly, it is not even, parts of the hotspot is brighter than other. The beam becomes very
usable when you are 4 feet away.
LiteFlux LF2 vs Gentos 1AAA Penclip
The only AAA light that come close to the Gentos is the Liteflux LF2. The Gentos has more
throw and can throw further. The hotspot is more intense and brighter. While the LF2 has
a greater and a little brighter spill.

Thank you for reading/watching, have a nice day.
