Genuine Eneloops?

I guess these are real Eneloops. The package is not as fancy as the packages of Eneloops I've bought in the past. But they do look like the packages I see on eneloopusa.com.

Clearly the quality control has diminished. Either that or Sanyo has found a way to triple the capacity of their AAA cells. Notice what is printed on the upper left corner of the back.

I bought these from Amazon.

Peeking into the unopened package, the cells look almost identical to ones I've bought in the past. I see one difference. These have a line that reads:
SIZE AAA HR03
the older ones say this:
SIZE AAA R03

The old packages had a date stamped on them. This package has no date.

Someone (DepotEco?) posted that Sanyo has changed their packaging with the newer batches of cells.

Your packaging doesn't look like the one shown on DE's site. Not sure if that matters.

A 2000 mAh AAA LSD would be awesome....I'm thinking someone made a boo boo there.

Have you opened them yet? If so, what's the date code on the side of the cell?

I just checked Sanyo's site and im thinking that whats on the package is a misprint. What does the battery itself say the mah is.

At least we can take comfort in the fact that the cells, at least, were made in Japan.

It would be interesting though, to know where they're being packaged now.

Your experience goes hand-in-hand with GarageBoy's:
I got a pack of 4 pack eneloops from Thomas Distributing and it came with only 3 in there. Called them up, they said they were all like this and they would send me another.
...
They sent me one cell
C'est la vie ...

I will open the package tomorrow unless someone suspects they are fake. I will then post the date code.

well...I bought 24 eneloop AAs from Thomas Distributing
all the packages have been torn open

the manufacture date isn't as clearly as my first eneloops, but they all registered 80% on the ZTS and no abnormal temperatures were observed during charging....so:candle::grin2:

I suppose we could speculate that they were just combining the '3 packs' encountered by GarageBoy.

Still, not what one would expect from a top tier retailer.

You would think they would at least discount them somewhat as 'open box' items.

On the other hand, no harm, no foul ...

I bought some AAA Eneloops from Thomas Distributing recently and they had that packaging too. I didn't notice if they said 2000 mah but I'll check later. Thomas Dist. is a big Sanyo dealer so I doubt they were fake. The old packaging was more attractive but it was ridiculously wasteful so I suppose I'm glad it's gone.

That's 2000mAh for all 4! :naughty: :grin2:

You know, a packaging typo like that isn't something I'd think that Sanyo would let get by them.

I'm not saying they're counterfeit's, I'm just saying that it's something to watch and see where else it shows up.

It's not like batteries have never been counterfeited before, and it seems to me that Eneloops are a prime target for counterfeiting due to them typically selling at premium prices over most other LSD batteries.

You can't believe everything you see and hear now, can you?

Check out these cells and who made them and where they were made...

Very funny :crackup::thumbsup:

A bit of speculation re: newer packaging -
previous original packaging looked like Japanese,
so the imports were packaged.

Since Sanyo USA (still GE?) are distributing/marketing eneloops in the USA -
perhaps they are now importing just the batteries,
and having them packaged for the USA?

EDIT to ADD -
eneloops were distributed and marketed by GE(/Sanyo) in the USA.
Is GE no longer associated with the eneloop?
(On a cursory search on GE.com I could not find any reference to eneloop)

At 80%, they've been sitting for more than a year, right? So if this is the new official packaging, either Sanyo is selling old stock in new packaging, or they're counterfeit (possibly non-LSD?).

Edit: Just read the Sanyoyo package... I like how they point out that "eneloop batteries need a charger to be recharged."

Just when I had my hopes up. I guess that perpetual motion machine I made still needs to wait for the right batteries.

I'm not sure that a ZTS reading is any more than a rough indication. To get an accurate measure you would have to do a discharge test.

Also, Sanyo have indicated that Eneloops are only charged to about 80% before sale, so 80% out of the packaging would be good.
