I read Craig's and Quickbeam's reviews on the Gerber LX3.0 and ordered one last week (waiting ever so patiently for it's arrival), but there don't seem to be many comments or opinions on this light here on CPF. Obviously, it's a little too large for EDC, but for those who own and use this light at home or at work, what's the verdict? Was it worth the purchase?

I have one.

I was a bit nonplussed by the brightness. My SL Jr. one watt Lux about equals it, so it is not overdriven at best. I will have to admit I received a SUPERB SL Jr. (compared to some friends examples). The luxeon lottery still exists.

That said, the 3/AA will give a lonnggg run time, the beam is nice, the finish is velvety soft, and I will keep it for sure.

The twist on has a spring, so functions as a press/momentary, which is nice.

I think I was expecting a few more lumens.

This format, with AA's, either two, or three, has become a favorite for long run time, cheap batteries, and general usefullness.

A very good light for the price. I think I paid 39.99 for it. Very nice white beam with bright hotspot and smooth corona. Nice construction, fit and feel. My only complaint is I wish it were Type 3 HA.

Remeber, too, that my review output and throw readings are on brand new batteries, and the LX3.0 is NOT regulated, so its brightness diminishes over time, dropping from that initial reading....

Glad you asked the question cosmic superchunk. I'm also condsidering buying the light, but don't know if I should. Not too many members seem to have this light and it's hard to get a good feel for the light (yes or no).

I have it... they packed the Three AA's in better than most so it's not overly long.

It could be brighter but it is a nice all around light. good camping light with a solar panel and a maha400 charger.

It's surprising to hear reports of disappointing brightness considering Craig's review which measured 900 cd for the beam. That's WAY brighter than the typical Streamlight SL, more like my Lighwave Infiniton (measured at 800+ cd) which is certainly not a disappointment in throw (sidespill yes, throw no).

Is everyone using fresh batteries in theirs?

BTW, I like my LX1.0 a lot. It maintains a flood beam at above 200 cd for about 9 hours using 2000 mah nimhs. And it was $22 at batterystation for a while.

I look forward to getting mine. I ordered it 2 weeks ago, but it seems it was on backorder and I'm still waiting on an email confirmation of delivery from the dealer. It definately looks like a good light to have around the house and Quickbeam's review was quite favorable. I have several unregulated LED lights and the Inova X5 was a longtime favorite until the XO came out, so the fact that the Gerber LX3.0 isn't regulated won't keep me from using the light.

I agree. I don't know what you guys are talking about, mine are brighter than crap I must have at least 25 different one-watt lights; some regulated, some not, and several 3-watt lights. This light (the LX3.0) is as bright as the best of them.

Just my two cents /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
