Picked up a new little toy yesterday off Craigs list. Couldn't pass it up for only $35 dollars and apparently by the way his phone was ringing quite a few others wouldn't have passed it up either.
Old guy had a really neat shop. Said he bought the brake directly from Gingery himself. Apparently, in the day so to speak, Dave Gingery sold both the books/plans and the machine itself. Now a days that isn't the case. I almost hesitate to use it too much as it seems somewhat collectible, but I will. It really is quite stout.
The top handles lock down the clamp leaf, and the max capacity really seems to be about a 32nd of an inch, but I have some 16 or 14 gauge aluminum that I like to work with. I kind of forced it to clamp down on it as a test, and at least for a small piece, it worked great. Probably will build a new set of locking clamps at some point to allow it to work with thicker aluminum.
