I thought about offering to do this for folks but it really is easy enough to do on your own. :) I was going to do the mod just for cost of materials (about 10 bucks plus shipping) but I didn't want to get flooded with a bunch of requests. It really is an easy mod and I think I went a bit overboard pointing out any issues to look out for just to cover the bases.

The mod really does move along quickly and somewhat intuitively. I was an aviation electronics tech in the Navy and don't have an aversion to cracking things open but am by no means a modding pro. Anyone can learn to solder well with a few minutes of guided practice. That's really the only thing that could be considered a skill in this mod and it is one that can be aquired easily. There were some helpful videos posted on the forum here somewhere that were hosted on Youtube if that is an issue for anyone. You can do it! :twothumbs


Hey Frank, feel free to post up any questions you have. That was my first instructional and could probably be made more clear. I know others here have done this mod as well and they may have something to add.

Many thanks for the detailed and comprehensive instructions and pics, it really helped a lot in my modding.

Couldn't find any strap wrenches so I used an old leather glove to hold the Gladius in the vise and another glove to cover the Gladius head before clamping it with Vise Grip locking pliers.

Had to heat up the Gladius head before it could be opened up by the Vise Grip locking pliers which caused very slight discoloration.

Scratches are unavoidable even with the leather glove fully protecting the Gladius head from the sharp teeth of the Vise Grip locking pliers. :(

Had to file off the reflector's two cutouts designed to straddle the Luxeon III LED legs and the ridges off the bottom of the reflector because these almost sliced off the leads of my soldered Seoul P4.

Swapped out my emitter today using this from DX I also bought the bare SSC P4, the light seams bright but warmer then the Lux 3 that was in there.
Did I get the wrong LED ?
Should I switch the emitters on the stars ?
I used Arctic Alumina Epoxy to mount the star there is enough room I might drill the heat sink and tap for screws to hold the star to make future swaps easier.
 
My SSC P4 is also warmer than the original Luxeon III in my Gladius. At first I didn't like it but it seems to grow on me so I won't change it for now. Maybe I just need to get used to the warmer tint.
 
I got my u2 bins from photonfanatic. I have purchased some fun lights from deal extreme but I trusted I would get the correctly numbered bins from photofanatic.
 
I had mine apart again and was thinking I'm going to tap and thread 2 holes into the slug so I can mount emitters using screws over epoxy. Making swaps easier.
 
I have a Modded gladius with a SSC P4 and it works sometimes.....I have 2 different tail caps and it does it with both .any ideas ??????????
 
I had a very early Gladius, but eventually bought the higher output Typhoon. The extra output is well worth it. As for the warranty on the Gladius, my recollection is that the terms did change shortly after the product was first sold. Also, I had a very long interaction with Blackhawk attempting to get the battery drainage issue with my Gladius fixed. The upshot is I ended up buying the Typhoon and am now very happy with the light and the higher output.
