Re: Got my first modern light

thanks for that bit of info jellydonut.

Hey Titaner, I've heard many good things about the Fenix lights, but I think I would go with the quark equivalents.

And thanks again for all the suggestions, very helpful, and I've added a couple more lights to my list.

@Belstaff - do you know if James at Cool torches is able to get custom built HDS lights. I mean the ones you can customise on the website, with different UI's, outputs, bezels etc?

I don't think so, but he may be able to order it for you and include it with his next order to save you the shipping. It wouldn't hurt to ask.

I have carried the E01 on my key ring for quite some time and still love it. However, I got the Fenix LD15 a week or so ago and love it! It is a very small AA light that puts out 107 lumens on turbo or 8 lumens on low.

I think it amounts to a perfect EDC. Have a spare eneloop in a pocket and you can blast out the gorgeous beam on turbo with no worries.

I also have an old Nite Ize headband that can be used with this little light making it a very light weight yet excellent headlamp!

Don't discount the potential need for all the light you can possibly get on the job as a paramedic...never know when you might end up being a first responder to some traffic collision or some other accident scene in the middle of the night and what you have with you is your only source of light for immediate triage. Even once the rest of them get there you may actually have the brightest light on scene.

I have two Olights, an I15 and the M21....I am happy with them both, the I15s variable brightness and forward clickie is why I bought it....besides its size. The M21 I bought before the XP-Gs hit the market full force....today I might go with one of them over the M21 as the XP-G I put into my 6P appears almost equal to it...though the M21 definately has a better beam.

Thanks for the suggestion, its a bit pricey though. I think if I do get another keychain light, it will be a preon Revo or something similar.

But I must agree with you on the E01, I'm finding it really useful to have a small light with me. The 10 lumens are sufficient for most tasks I do, and really handy at night, it easily light up enough space in front of me, that I could walk aroudn without tripping over anything.

Thats a good point you make. I am sort of looking into a pocket rocket/big thrower or wall if light type light, but for now, I was mainly after a belt light, and I decided to get the m20. I may still get the m21 later, to see which one I prefer. I will however read through all the old threads for a powerful, reasonable sized light.

Going to be using this is a duty light. (paramedic) Could I also ask for some other suggestions?

I've just realized that you're a paramedic :ohgeez:. If you do end up getting a HDS Clicky, I suggest opting for the high CRI version. I've read reports from others in your field that the high CRI is particularly good for assessing wounds and injuries because of the way it renders colours faithfully. It's popular with photographers for the same reason. Just something for you to consider.

p.s. don't forget to claim it on your tax return !!!

That is a good point about the high CRI clicky, I was actually reading a thread where someone mentioned they gave a light to their doctor friend, but they didn't want it, as it wasn't good for looking at skin.

Plus it gives me a reason to get 2 HDS lights , one a high CRI one, the other the 170 tactical that I was looking at the other day

I also sent an email to James inquiring about the custom hds clicky.
