Sorry for the lack of pics (I'll modify this post once I have them) as my camera battery was dead and SOMEONE (oh no not my dear wife) hid the recharging cord (why can't sony just use regular batteries like everyone else in the whole wide world??) Any way I got my Pacific. Here are all the details (most of which I had gotten wrong in my other post- oops)
I got the AA model Pacific in HA111 finish- very nice.
I got the HP model (230cp) with a RED luxeon led (not 5 like I thought- what was I thinking)
I got a Stainless steel momentary switch and the standard keyring tailcap
I got one of those nifty Nytel(?) difussers.
I got the higher voltage driver so I can use 3.7V LiIon

Here is my impressions. First of all this thing is insanly bright for a red LED! (this is perfect as I need a bright light for reading astronomy charts- while perserving my night vision) I did an informal throw test in the warehouse and can see the beam on the wall at 50 feet!! (the warehouse is not super well lit). It is hard to give a Lumen est. as I have nothing to compare it to (my Hugsby tricolor, and Rayovac red LED headlight are BLOWN out of the water). Closest guess would be in the 25-30 area.
Fit and finish are TOPS! No question that a lot of time and effort went into this light. Everything that should turn- DOES (and smoothly I may add) everything that should reamin stationary- also does!
Run time has been over 3 hours now with the supplied battery (OH they include a battery!) The diffuser cap is so cool- turns the light into a flare! THe difusser has a nice hole in the top to allow some use of the beam- while the rest of the cap GLOWS! I'm going to get a TON of use out of this cap! Completly waterproof (did the dunk test- No problems)

OK now for the negatives- And bear in mind these are all VERY minor and very well could be due to the specialized nature of this particular light. None of these would be enough to make me change my mind or affect the usefullness of this light.
Some artifacts (I've noticed this with all colored LEDs so far) Not real bad- but noticable.
There is a donut hole- it is more pronounced without the diffuser cap- but is almost non existent with the diffuser cap (which leads me to believe that it's a reflection of the LED)
I think an OP reflector would most likely solve this- or maybe this is just a function of the colored LEDs
Plastic lens- We will see how this holds up.
No directions for changing switches (it is super easy- but still required me to call them- Curt walked me thru it- and I felt silly when I saw how easy it was).

That is really about it. All in all this was well worth the $60 I spent- and I would not hesitate to purchase another Peak in a heartbeat. :twothumbs

Oh very nice, a red luxeon. we were all stumped, thinking it was 5x5mm leds.
Good to know that peak offers high power red leds. You picked up some great
accessories for it as well.

The polycarbonite lens is actually pretty durable. If you get small scratches
on it, they do clean up nicely with plastic safe polish. I've yet to fully
destroy a peak lens. normal cleaning with a damp cloth. dont use a dry paper towel.

the high voltage driver intrigues me, is it brighter on the Li-on?

enjoy that light. Cant wait for pics. :nana:

Re: Got my PEAK

Sounds like quite the showpiece, especially with the stainless steel finish

I'd wager you'll see a *big leap* in output when using a 14500, and you'll get some insane runtime on an Energizer Lithium (but stick to LSD NiMHs for bang-for-the-buck).

Re: Got my PEAK

Congratulations with your Pacific. It will surely make you happy. It makes me want another Pacific...
I would love to have one with a green led.

Kind regards and enjoy the new "illumination tool"!

Mwclint- No LiIons yet! I'm pretty sure it will be brighter- but My real desire for the LiIons was to give me better cold weather performance. This was kind of silly as I pplan on keeping this in my pocket or around my neck when using it outside- but I wanted the option of LiIon. I got a cheap set of unprotect cells on the way- If I like the performance I'm going to get a good set.

I love how the AA option makes the light a straightforward "slim tube" design, very pocketable.

If you want better cold weather performance, you'll need some Energizer Lithiums ("Ultimate"/"e2"/L91), those are the only AA-format cells that are good down to -40. I would advise against Li-Ions in cold weather as they become unreliable (and may become damaged) in temps as modest as 0F.

The beamshot does not look like it has much flood?

Is the light a tight beam, or did the camera not capture the flood?

Pretty tight beam- some flood that the camera just won't capture- better closerange flood with the diffuser installed (main plan for its use in astronomy)

OK just got in from looking a comet Lulin- and trying out the Pacific- Comet was cool. The light was INCREDIBLE. I was able to easily go from reading my charts to the telescope eyepiece with no loss of dark adaptation! I tried the light out with and w/o the diffuser- worked rel well both ways- I think I prefer using for reading with the diffuser as it does not cast a glare. I do love the way this light works! Kudos to PEAK.

Just wanted to update anyone interested. I got DX unprotected 14500 (ordered the unprotected one by mistake- No way I'm going to use this in a Peak on a regular basis- as the vampire abilities of these lights will easily take unprotected cells down below recoverable voltages) Anyway I put in the one good cell (typical- one good cell on bad one- oh well DX is sending out a free replacement) and twisted on the Peak- OMG it was like looking into the SUN!! Easily put out 100 lumens!! Blew my UF 501B Red k2 Luxeon (running on an 18650) out of the water!! I need to take the Peak into wok but I'm pretty sure I'll get a beam throw of 60 feet (the length of our warehouse). Way too much power for using as an astronomy light-but amazing non the less. It is supposed to be clear tonight and if I get out with the scope maybe I'll try to get a few night beam shots.
