Does anyone know if there is any difference betweent the plain old Infinity Ultra and the "government issue" version of this light?

Thanks in advance,
Ken

The Government issue has Type III HA finish. Very hard and scratch resistant.

The civilian model comes in different colors and includes a lanyard and pocket clip that is not included in the Goverment issue [but it does not have the Type III HA finish].

Other than that [and the engraving] there is no difference. Somehow a rumor was started that the Government issue is brighter ... that is not true.

Both FlashlightOCD and Paulr are right... Basically the only difference btwn the Ultra G and Infinity Ultra (apart from HA coating) is that the Ultra G has a NSN number also says 'US Government' on the barrel. Kinda adds on to the 'cool' factor... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Personally, if I still traveled outside the U.S. like I used to, I'd rather not have to explain to some suspicious rural policeman why I have a piece of equipment labeled "U.S. Government" in my pocket. I can just see myself tied to a chair with someone screaming in my face "You CIA! You CIA!" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Man they don't call it hard anodizing for nothing! I modded my Government issue Ultra by cutting the end off to thread a Kroll on there, bored it out for 1xcr2, and stuck a MM+ sandwich in it. I wanted to polish the reflector but man was it a pain. I used 220 grit sandpaper to take the HA off but it wasn't doing very much. So I whipped out the dremel to grind it off. Teach that tough HA not to mess with my 770 Dremel or any of em' anymore. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

JohnK, I emailed CMG inquiring about buying some clips and they sent me a few for nothing.

762, there are some beamshots around, basically the CMG has somewhat wider spill.

Not a "standard", but here's a picture of one compared to an Arc-LE (now Arc-PE):

The Ultra is on the left, the Arc is on the right.
Shined onto a wall about 5' away.

I just picked up three ARC AAA's on B/S/T, and there is a quite marked difference in beams as some have noted (I have three Infinity Ultras).

I see the same brightness, but a much wider, smoother beam from the Infinity Ultras. This does not mean one is better than the other, but just, well, different.

My first AAAs, nice workmanship.

As has already been said, the CMG-UG beam is quite wider, though in reality, they give off about the same amount of light. The Ultra-G gives off just a hint more, but its not significant.

I love mine! At $14.50 its a steal. Get one!
