If you were looking mainly at playing games...would you go for the Radeon 9600 or the Nvidia Geforce FX5700? And why?
Thanks to anyone who can provide any help! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Radeon 9600 because it's in the laptop I want /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

9600 for sure .just go to any tech forum it is a great card.
just dont get a se model the xt is the best model.but i also recomend the ati 9800 non pro you can sometimes find it for 200 us bucks and a lot a times u can hack it to a 9800 pro

now i rethink it i was thinking a nvidia 5200 for some reason.but i think ati is still the better choice i know for sure the ati 9800 kicks but. the 9600 is nice to

I would stick with ATI, I have a 9800 non-pro and love it, my friend has a 9600 (pro, I think?) his is overclocked and performs real close to mine. I got my card at Best Buy as an open box and paid less than 200 for it. I've found that electronics stores sometimes have better deals on video cards than you can find on-line, just my .02 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

did u overclcok it to a 9800 pro yet?

The rumor rumblings are that the Nvidia's aren't doing so hot with the upcoming Half Life II. The Radeons OTH are returning great scores (the upscale models of course)

I have an Nvidea GF ti4600 and really like it, but the above info made up my mind for what's going into my next system.

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro,
Make absolutely sure that the 9600 Pro is the one with 600MHz DDR memory...some of the cheap ones are running 400MHz which you don't want. They run around $150-170

Thanks for all the GREAT help! If I go with the 9600 pro will I have any software problems? I know that all games over the last while have been designed to work with Nvidia cards...will they still work with the Radeon?

to my understanding, ATI is stronger than Nvidia in every respect except its simplicity. I heard it is a heck to install ATI's drivers etc, because each video card has its own driver and each driver has its own complexity. But once you get it to work, it will perform flawlessly and a lot better than NVIDIA.
