ok-
so I pre-ordered an H51 for my GF and
it was delayed so bought an H31 for myself
and gave it to her to use for a trip and until
the H51 arrived.

now that its here she prefers the "little chub" over the
H51...
so now Im "stuck" with the 51 and am hoping its close to
as bright as the 31 if I run it with NIZN - I have a set of them
and a charger laying around..

any thoughts?
Ill probably sell it when/if the 61 is released (not that into the AA
form factor myself)

Im not at all bummed on the 51 btw - its a great light
I just want the maximum brightness possible.
Im planning on buying 2 H61s and running them on the
same strap for MTB at some point in the future
cheers!

I don't know the specs of these lights off-hand. But I do know from experience that when you switch from NiMH to NiZn, most LED lights become about 25 to 35 percent brighter.

Which would in fact make it brighter than the H31, at 250 lumens compared to 220. ;) I'm not sure if it would have that effect in practice however.

hmm-
the H31 running an AWrcr123 seems a little brighter on max
than the H51 on the NIZN. I might be imagining it tho. it could
be the VF of the emitter being higher on one too..
probably not enough dif to bug BIG C for a test.

the NIZN is brighter than an alkaline for sure and id bet
than an eneloop but I dont have any of those.

maybe a litium energizer or something would be brighter?
not really into primarys or spending the dough.
pretty happy with the NIZNs.

also, scotch removable tape makes a great reading difuser paired
with low#2. really like this light alot!

This is the first time i hear of NiZn batteries.

As i didn`t use Eneloops or similar NiMHs yet (where using 14500s) im thinking about getting some NiZn Batteries for my stuff.
Will everything which works with standard AA batteries work with them? Are there any drawbacks over NiMh?

Thanks,
Christian

Thanks for the thread hint. I should have done a search before asking :ohgeez:

Edit: That thread implies, that NiZn`s would be good for one AA lights ... so for zebralights they should be good?

ive been using 4AA NIZN in my older brunton L3 headlamp (p4 modded)
for about 6-8months and had no problems. I used the headlamp on average
once or twice a week for about 2-3hours doing trailwork.

I dont think Ive run them down super low but havent had any problems
with them yet. Im going to be using them with the H51 as they're brighter
than the alkalines for sure and a little lighter.

Id consider the eneloops but will pass as I want my light as bright as possible and
dont plan on buying any other AA lights - Im normally an 18650 guy.

PM Paul from Maryland - hes probably the one with the most experience with NIZN.

I wonder if the L91 energizer would be brighter than the NIZN?

overall its pretty cool they can make a boost driver as powerful as the
one in the H51. super bright for only 1.5v!
