Haiku Disassembly Question

Depending on the particular Haiku you have there are possibly 4 O-rings that could be replaced although there is only one that is exposed to the elements. You have an O-ring on either side of the window and in current versions, an O-ring around the reflector and a small one in a reflector cup that stands off the reflector from the LED.
To replace the window O-rings you need a needle or other type of skinny piercing tool to stab and pull out the retaining O-ring (it can be used again if not damaged beyond being pierced). Once the retaining O-ring is removed, the window will fall out of the front of the head and the O-ring window seal will also be free to come out.
To get to the O-ring on the reflector, the reflector will need to be pushed out the front after the window has been removed as well as the light engine so you can push the reflector from the rear.
To get to the O-ring that serves as a stand off for the LED, you need to unscrew the Light Engine from the rear. The small O-ring is then free to fall out and care is needed for reassembly.
In assembling the head from scratch, I first screw the Light Engine in tight and snug. I put the O-ring around the girth of the reflector and place the small O-ring in the reflector cup. I place the reflector on the work bench, forward end down. I put the head over the reflector and push it down flush to the bench. This gets the reflector started into the head and it will remain by virtue of interference of its O-ring in the bore of the head. Holding the head forward end down so that the small O-ring remains in the cup I then use a proper shaped tool to push the reflector further up into the head until it bottoms out, seating the small O-ring. At this point you can carefully push on the outer edge of the reflector to help get it better centered with the LED but if you slip and slide into the reflector with whatever you are using as a tool you can easily scar the reflective surface.
Small nose needle nose or ring nose pliers can be used to unscrew the Light Engine from the rear.

How can one tell when the o-rings need replacing? By looking? By Age?
Does any of the o-rings needed to be lubed at intervals?

In my opinion, there is no need to replace any of the O-rings in the Haiku head unless there is obvious evidence of them deteriorating. Since I use EPDM and silicone, O-zone will not deteriorate them nor will any other element in the normal atmosphere that I am aware of. Petroleum based chemicals could attack the retaining O-ring since it is exposed but I think this would be obvious.
